Default Monarch of the Seas

I have cruised in the past on Carnival. Just booked a cabin on RCI as the deal was good and its not a big deal to travel anywhere in FL
Does anyone have insight on Monarch of the Seas?

Hi,

You'll get people responding saying that any cruise is a good cruise but here's my opinion. I just came back from a cruise on the Monarch in March. The ship is old, there's no doubt about it...... Wait, let me ask; what ship(s) have you sailed with Carnival?

Although the Monarch is older, it was better than any older Carnival ship that I've been on and I've been on 3. The price may have been great and you'll enjoy yourself but when you get a chance book a Voyager Class Ship or better and you'll how Royal really outshines Carnival; in my opinion.

You'll have fun no doubt; the staterooms are small, the jacuzzi's are small, the pool(s) are okay, the food is good, the ship was pretty clean - no funny smells.

I have pics here on the site:

As was discussed in an above thread-the ship has no safes-unless you are on deck 9 and 10. So just bring costume jewelry.

I have not been on this ship, but I was on Sovereign of the Seas twice (sister ship), and as the previous poster mentioned I liked SOS better than the older Carnival ships that do the 3 and 4 day cruises.

But I do differ than the previous poster on one thing. I did not care for the voyager class-I like Carnival spirit class better than the voyager class.

However, I do not like ships that over 3000 PAX-which it is more that- than the spirit class is better than the voyager class.

But, back to THIS ship-it will be a nice little cruise for you-and a real value-I would pick Monarch for a shorter cruise in an heartbeat! (or Majesty of the Seas-Monarch's sister ship that is still with the fleet)

I've sailed on Monarch twice; she used to be the world's largest cruise ship back in 1992 when she came out. She was one of the first ships to ever have a centrum and she was featured on life styles of the rich and famous (back when that was on tv). Royal gave her a complete face lift when they moved her back to FL from CA; so you'll find new carpets; fixtures, pool area, deck chairs, re-configured windjammer, etc. She's a lot better than any other ship in her market.

She does not compare to Royal's Voyager or Freedom class ships; they are in an entirely different ball park. I think you'll find her to be a very nice ship and when you pull into port; she'll still appear cleaner, more dynamic and eye catching than any Carnival ship.

Thank you all for your help. I drove over and took a look at the Monarch the last time she was in port and she's a beautiful ship. I'm looking forward to sailing her soon. If she looks half as beautiful on the inside as she did outside then I will be very happy.

Just got back from this cruise and it was awesome. I have not been on the bigger ships except for Enchantment so I am not spoiled like some on this site. The ship looks better on the inside and does not look old at all to me, they constantly repaint/refurbish everything. Food was excellent except for the lamb shank which was dried out. If you are going no, then you must have got a bargain. Wish I could go again.

Just came back from a cruise on the Monarch this past Friday. The ship is wonderful. It does show some sign of wear but overall its a wonderful ship. One thing though - you most likely won't get to swim in the pool unless you go at night time. Pool is way too small (i called it a soaker since that's all you could do in there). You would enjoy the beach much better than the pool. But like i said i loved the ship and there is plenty to do there. Enjoy your vacation.

I'm taking my 2nd Monarch cruise next week-and I really enjoy the ship. The staff is the the BEST. Most have been on Monarch for many years and it really shows. They take a lot of pride in their girl!

Send Monarch back to Los Angeles. I miss the great food and service, not to mention the great prices we used to enjoy on the 4-day cruises.

Regarding not having a safe, you can use the safety deposit boxes at the concierge desk at no charge.

We have been on the Monarch twice once in LA and in Jan this year. A great ship with an amazing crew one of the friendliest crews we have seen. We even met our waiter fron June 06 in Jan (He is now a supervisor in the windjamer) and not only did he remember us but remembered our neighbors who were with us, our kids (who weren't with us in Jan.) and even what tables we were sitting at. Pretty amazing since 2 1/2 years had passed and thousands of passengers. We were told by one crew member that Monarch is a repeated winner of the friendliest crew award by RCL. Way to go staff especially with Monarch being the oldest ship of the fleet, and you would think they woulkd have an all rookie crew, but they actually have alot of crew that have been on her for years. You will have a wonderful time cruising on Monarch.

We were on the Monarch a number of years ago, right before
they did some renovations..in fact the Windjammer was out of bounds
for us as they were working on it during our cruise (we were
not happy about that) but they set up buffets on the pool deck.

We're going on an all girls cruise Sept. 25th and looking forward to
it again especially since the recent renovation.

Is it true that there are no safes except for decks 9 and 10.

Lou, that is what someone posted in the other thread who had been on her since she left California.

Tks. then I guess it is true. I certainly don't remember
as it was a number of years since I was on Monarch.

I want her back, too! I sailed her 25 times before RCI sent her to PC. I booked a cruise this summer because the prices were so low and I had miles for an airline ticket. The crew sets the gold standard for RCI. She may not have all the things to do that a Voyager class does, and she is a little worn around the edges, but everybody onboard will do their best to make sure you're having a good time.

Default Monarch of the seas.

Just read all the comments about this ship. I am cruising on her with my Wife and two offspring ( 20 and 21) 4 nights to Bahamas 5th October 09. Really excited after the reports. Is there anything that is a must see in Nassau and cococay?

As the original poster, I wanted to get back here and report on my cruise.

It was awesome!

My concerns about the age and the status of the ship were immediately put to rest when I got onboard.

The ship is in beautiful condition--and still very elegant--and the crew was friendly and seemed eager to help.

We didn't have a hitch the entire trip.

I'll post a full review when I can.
