Default Going on first cruise after dry dock on Explorer of the Seas

I just found out that the January 14th cruise I booked will be the Explorers first cruise after coming out of dry dock. The ship will be in dry dock for ten days which seems like a small amount of time to work on a ship of this size.

My concern is that projects will go past deadlines and work will still be going on during the cruise.

I saw a review once(I think on this site)that construction was going on during the cruise which showed pictures of sections of the ship that were yellow taped off and you can see guys welding. Also pictures of guys laying down carpeting and closed down pools and tubs that were under repair causing overcrowding in the other pools.

Does anyone know what normally goes on during these dry dockings and does it ever overlap into the next cruise?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Thanks Cruise Queen for bringing this to my attention

Hi Dave

I remember seeing that review too somewhere. I don't remember what ship/line it was. This does not happen very often. Usually when ships are done with their makeover they are complete and ready for cruisers.

Keep in mind too that Explorer is already looking real good so she might not be getting any major work done anyway.

I want to hear all about my girl Explorer when you get back! 8)

work definatly can continue when the ship comes out of drydock. i was on the carnival destiny a few years back shortly after it came out of drydock and work was continueing during the cruise. there were some problems here and there but nothing major. enjoy your cruise, the explorer is a great ship. I did a 12 night med cruise on Voyager of the Seas in May. She had just come out of 10 day dry dock in Germany. The ship sailed with crew from Germany to Southampton. the crew told us they were laying carpet in the promenade on the trip from Germany-Southampton; also some of the staterooms were still being fixed. They scraped the bottom of the hull and electrical work in drydock.. You should have no problem boarding the ship; also the ship will depart on time; u may see the crew working while your cruise is going on; but it shouldn't affect you.

Even if they still need to finish work RCL will do its best to minimize any interference to the guests. I'm sure they know how important it is to keep there guests happy so they will continue cruising. Don't worry with the ship just out of dry dock the ship should be very clean and you will be the first to experience any updates or changes they do make. I would be on the first cruise after then the last cruise before dry dock. We were on this ship in March and had a wonderful time the ship was great.
