Default Oasis Prices Not High Enough - RCI's Fain

Dispatch, Finland: While chatting with the press in Finland, Royal Caribbean International Chairman Richard Fain was adamant that the Oasis is not getting a high enough ticket price.

But he did say that the Oasis is doing very well. The Oasis' premium over the rest of the Royal Caribbean fleet is 50% higher than the Freedom of the Seas' premium when that ship debuted in 2006, Fain said.

Right now, the Oasis is getting prices that are 20-25% higher than the rest of the fleet, according to Vicki Freed, Royal Caribbean's senior vice president of sales and marketing.

For a seven-day Caribbean cruise departing on April 25, the lead-in price for a standard inside cabin on the Freedom of the Seas is $563. For an Oasis cruise departing one day earlier, the same cabin starts at $1,020.

A balcony cabin on the Freedom will set you back $860 that week, while on the Oasis it starts at $1,240.

And the highest-priced suites on the ship – the Grand Suite on the Freedom and the Crown Loft Suite on the Oasis – go for $2,590 and $4,350, respectively.

Those prices might not be good enough for Fain but, as Freed pointed out, they will surely be a welcome relief to travel agents whose commissions have been lower due to weak pricing over the last year.

Prices are high and remain high until the fall/winter of 2010 where there are some $799/$899 deals.

A week in January on Oasis for two is $3,203. and the same week on Liberty is $1,250.

These prices for Oasis are way too high for someone to pay such a substantial premium. I had two Grand Suites booked on the ship for Feb 2010, which I canceled and re-booked Freedom; saved over $5,000 between the cabins by going on Freedom. Oasis can wait for a year when the pricing structure come back down to earth.

I completely understand that the line needs to recoop their investment on this ship; however, I just do not believe I want to be the one filling up that bucket just yet.

I was really looking forward to going on the Oasis as we really loved the Freedom. But with the prices....I will wait until she is much more affordable.

We booked when they opened up sales for Diamond Members and we are paying $2200 for a balcony in april. It's not cheap but It's our anniversary, and Mrs. TM's best friend and her husband are sailing with us and we are very much looking forward to sail on the Oasis.

TM $2200. for a Balcony is cheap! I guess it pays to book early.

The cheapest balcony I see for April is $3,043.

You did good TM!

i am sailing solo on the oasis in oct. 2010. i got a midship balcony for 1960.00. that's 980.00 ea. based on two people in a room. i don't mind paying the full supplement. i've done other cruises that were close to this price.so for the oasis i think this is a great price. KC

Hi Kevin,
I think I'll look to go on Oasis around that time as well, I just can justify paying twice that much to go 6 months earlier, just doesn't add up.

After the novelty wears off and when the Alure is added to the fleet I would think prices will drop to levels similiar to the other ships. This way over priced class will price itself right out of business if it doesnt become more affordable. Its all bells and whistles right now and when enough people see it they may decide to sail the other ships that they can afford. RCCL is taking a huge huge risk here! The senior managements staffs jobs are all riding on the success of these two ships. I guarantee you!!
