Default Hotels at or near Cape Canaveral??

I have searched for information on this and I cannot find anything current. I am looking for a hotel for several of us to stay in two nights before our cruise in January.
There is information out there but some of it is 3 years old. Alot can happen in three years especially with this economy. Has anyone stayed at a reasonable hotel in or near Cape Canaveral??

Thanks,

Linda A

We stayed one night in January at the Country Inn and Suites in Cape Canaveral. It was a very nice hotel close to the port. They also have cruise parking there cheaper than the prices at the port and a shuttle van to take you to the ship that leaves at several times in the morning and will pick you up after the cruise. It was reasonably priced too.

There's also a Residence Inn next door to the Country. And a block down is the cruisers fav, the Radisson At The Port. If you want to do something on the beach, literally 3 minutes to the east of all of these is Royal Mansions Resort. We know that well because we have been vacationing there for almost 20 years. They are small condos with full kitchens. Very nice and yet cozy, plus complimentary continental breakfast. Beach is great also. They tell you if you call that they can only do 7 nights or more but if you make the res. on their website: www.royalmansions.com , it will take whatever you need. You can also apply a AAA discount and maybe a few others. Plus, check their specials. I've been getting some emails from them that they are running some right about now.

With the Radisson, it's almost all cruisers the night before sailings, but if you do stay there, I recommend blowing off their free transportation to the port and taking a cab. We have driven by the place many times and it always has a huge line in front waiting for the shuttles. We stayed there once but we had a rental car. We got it in Orlando and returned it to the Budget place just down the block from the Radisson. They had a van we took to the port.

So, quite a few choices. They have been doing a lot of hotel building there in the past few years. there may even be a few more than you have read here. Have fun.

I agree with chipmeister about forgoing the shuttle service offered at the Radisson. It was a yelling and shoving match when we did it once, now we just rent a car from Budget and drop it off next to the port. Our friends grabbed a cab. We also like staying at the Hampton Inn down A1A about 2 miles. We had an 8th floor room closest to the ocean and it was beautiful. They offer a free breakfast, have an outdoor pool and a walkway to the beach.

We loved the Radisson! Shuttle was great, took us to liquor store for adult beverages, to Rusty's for dinner on the water (picked us up after as well) and to the port the next day - all for free! We pre-scheduled port transportation and were held up about 20 minutes due to a wedding party before us that was due to be married onboard and running late (yes, it was the bride holding up the show). The other shuttles were perfect! Pool is great and had free live entertainment poolside. Also, if you are an early riser you can walk (5-10 minutes) to the Manatee Park, beautiful area with jumping fish and occasional manatees as well as YOUR SHIP right across the bay!!! It was twilight when I was there and I was thrilled to see the whole ship suddenly light up! Right about 7am lights were flickering on and off like crazy - it was like a ship-shaped Christmas Tree!

If you look for hotels in Cocoa, and Cocoa Beach you will find several national chains. Cocoa beach is only a few miles from Port Canaveral. Check out the Cocoa Beach web site for more info.

If you are renting a car, you have a bit more flexibility on where you can stay. We stayed at the Doubletree in Cocoa Beach and it was nice. The rental car place then took us to the Port. We also have flown in and stayed near Disney at Universal Studios (getting a GREAT deal on Priceline bc near the Port that weekend was way too high) and driven to Canaveral the same day. Same thing, taken car rental shuttle to the Port. Good luck.

Yes, we are renting a car so Double Tree is an option. We are flying in on Friday and want to spent Saturday at Kennedy Space Center. Then board the ship on Sunday. Is there ANY information on Cape Canaveral booking thru Priceline?? We have used Priceline every other cruise but the ports were Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. You can find tons of info on big cities using priceline but not Cape Canaveral.

Thanks tons for your input

Linda
