This post was created during the first Media cruise for Oasis of the Seas - November 20. It starts November 19th with views of the ship in the harbor during the Rihanna concert. Those are in this thread. Pics of the ship are in the link below:

I Just arrived at the beautiful Hilton Ft Lauderdale Marina Hotel on 17th St in Ft Lauderdale. I think mostg of you know it, but if not there isw NO better place for a cruiser to stay.

Outside my window I have a full view of Oasis which I will be borading tomorrow. I will probably be able to hear (and partially see) the Rihanna Concert tonight because I am facing the back of the Aqua Theater stage.

I will be uploading pictures soon. This is it. baby, Oasis of the Seas! I have been waiting some --- six --- years for this day :D:D

I just have to say what a fantastic hotel this. I just watched a Princess ship sailing out of the harbor, and the view from my balcony is of the entire cruise ship terminal. This is cruiser-Heaven.

I will get out my video tonight and try to capture some of the Rihanna concert for you. Just take a look at the view from my balcony - and my beautiful room!

Now that the lights are quickly fading - and I am guessing Rihanna will take the stage soon, I want to get some lit pics of Oasis online up for you.

Paul Motter November 19th, 2009 06:17 PM

But I really want them to be bigger pics, not just thumbs, so bear with me as I learn our wonderful new software:D

And there she is - Oasis at night - from the stern end where the Aqua Theater is located and where I am sure I will hearing the sound of a Rihanna concert before too long.

ready2gonow November 19th, 2009 06:55 PM

What a great view, Paul! I know everyone there is so excited. I have to wait until next April, so I will just have to enjoy it, through your words and pics! Give us lots of both!

Paul Motter November 19th, 2009 06:57 PM

Getting Ready for the concert
The ship is all set up with stage lights, looking like it iso ready for a big show. I am sure it will be loud enough to here it from my roiom, so I will video and send some to you all later.

Happy Oasis Day, cruise lovers :)

Paul Motter November 19th, 2009 07:09 PM

I have a short video to show you to see how the ship looks while setting up foir Rihanna. The Aqua Theater is all lit up. - NOw, I dont know who Rihanna is, or how they organized this event, so anything could happen, I don't know.

Biut if it does you will get to see it here...

Oasis Comes Alive at Night.

This video will be in the CruiseMates channel of YouTbe where we also have a lot of other cool videos from Alaska, Europe and the Caribbean. Check it out!

I just want to say a little more about this hotel. We have held several CruiseMates get-togetheres here. It once had a different name, but you all know it as the 17th st hotel with the Marina and the great view of the cruise shiop docks. There is a very cool pool area outside and I am goiong out there for old times sake.

And the next time we all sail out of Ft Lauderdale. we can meet here once again for a big get-together. The pool area is great.

Donna November 19th, 2009 07:39 PM

That would be great Paul if you can hear the concert! Keep us posted, nice pics so far :-)

Have a great time, can't wait to hear all about it.

Paul Motter November 19th, 2009 09:27 PM

I can hear it
From my window I can hear the concert,I hear various things like crowds screaming, some drumbeats but with indefinable basslines, etc,
But that ship is SO big that it just looks closer than it must actually be and I can't really see anything changing onboard except the lights... no people moving, etc.

No worries, I will be there tomorrow to see everything. I can't tell you how abuzz this town, Ft Lauderdale, is about this ship. Everywhere you go it is all anyone is talking about. Tons of travel agents are here to see it, plus media tomorrow. Its one big party in FLL tonight, that's for sure.

More tomorrow - don't forget to watch Good Morning America on ABC to see them broadcast live from the ship.

I'll be here, too, as soon as I get checked out of this hotel and checked in to the ship. Oasis - here we come.

Paul Motter November 19th, 2009 09:51 PM

Wait - something unexpected!!!
I dont know why, but the ship is actually moving right now. They just pulled away from their dock and the are re-positioning - somewhere...

Paul Motter November 19th, 2009 09:53 PM

Oh - wait - another small ship is arriving on the dock from at sea (Its about 10:00 pm here) and they may have to make room. Interesting. I wonder if people are trapped on board?

dah77 November 19th, 2009 10:04 PM

i would love to be traped aboard that baby

Paul Motter November 19th, 2009 10:20 PM

I don't know why, but they just moved Oasis, completely turning her around. i just got great video of the aquatheater water art in action. See it here:

YouTube - SANY0017.MP4

In fact - Oasis is headed out to sea - and I did not realize she was going to do this tonight. It's 10:18 pm local time and it looks to me like she is going out for the night. I hope she is back fopr ther Goos Morning America crowd (unless they are onboard

See you tomorrow - Oasis - go open your casinos and shops (must be a real party onboard, man!)

ready2gonow November 19th, 2009 10:21 PM

It will be interesting to hear why they have had to move. Do you guess someone's calculations were "off" just a little?

I can just hear it "Oh, my, I didn't realize she was THAT big!"

It could be that this was planned as an overnight cruise to no-where for the media that is on-board.

YouTube - SANY0014.MP4

Here is another video showing Oasis' waterworks in the AquaTheater. I saw these as she turned to leave the Port Evergaldes harbor - something no one expected. It was considered common knowledge she would stay docked tonight after the Rihanna Comcert - obviously, someone wanted to take her for a test drive

Paul Motter November 19th, 2009 10:50 PM

Here are some more pictures as she was leaving the port....
With this one she just pulled away - we don't know why. In fact, a little gambling boat was just coming in and looked quite cionfused about what this big ship might be doing.

Here we have a full side view of Oasis at night full of people with all the lights. She was just starting to head out the channel

And here she is - long gone for tonight anyway - you see the 17th st drawbridge in the foreground.

Paul Motter November 19th, 2009 11:06 PM

I really don't know why she went out to sea - a little surprise perhaps, hard to say. The Rihanna concerts details were a little sketchy, but no one I talked to expected the ship to leave the dock tonight - but she is gone - trust me on that one...

cruisermeg November 19th, 2009 11:08 PM

I have no intention of sailing on her, but thanks so much for the pictures, videos and reports...

I must admit, she looks pretty all lit up!!!

Enjoy your time on the ship...hope you get to sleep......looks like you've been posting VERY late at night....

thanks again!

Paul Motter November 20th, 2009 12:13 AM

I am so sorry you feel so strongly about what I suppose was the Royal Chumps affair that you will miss this ship.

I guess I am a big advocvate of letting bygones be bygones. Oh yeah, I have been taken advantage of too many times in my life because of that attitude, but what the heck - life is still good.

I have to admit, Im hyped up. This is more than just a ship to me , its a technical marvel and I am a super-geek. Plus I'm from AZ and we were on Pacific time until two weeks ago, so it is still early to me, but still!!!!

I feel like eating chocolate and caviar and drinking wine - celebrating, I'm giddy (oh shut the hell up, already, you loon!).

Anyway - yeah, I am trying to mellow down now. Probably read a book - that always puts me to sleep.

I hope you get to see Oasis some day - without any ill feelings.

Mermaid November 20th, 2009 06:29 AM

Hope that book put you to sleep for a few hours Paul! You WILL have a lot of celebrating to do once on board. The Oasis is just a 'tad' on the large size for my personal taste, but I have to admit the last few weeks I've been drawn to her like a magnet. And I'm wishing that I had listened to DH when we were aboard the FOS a couple of months ago, and booked her! I know that I will be on board her at least once to see this marvel, or her sister ship, sometime. I'm loving your live blog! Signed, a landlocked Mermaid.

felix_the_cat November 20th, 2009 07:12 AM

Hi Paul,

My first question is about your hotel - what exactly is the name of it? We're booked into a Hilton in January and I just want to know if it's the same one and if not, I may change :)

I am a Royal Chump too and have no desire to sail on the Oasis however it has nothing to do with my feelings about RCI. I just feel she's far too big for me. Again, in saying that, my DH has asked if we could try it so I will never say never (not about anything actually). Just watching for the prices to come down and I'll muddle through a sailing so he can see it himself maybe - some day. :)

Paul Motter November 20th, 2009 08:26 AM

Friday Morning - No Oasis
Okay - So, I just woke up from a fitfull night's sleep, as you may have read I was rather excited last night.

Oasis took off about 10:30 - sailed out to sea, much to mu surprise. Of course I expected to see her in the same spot this morning, after all, she has obe special berth just for her.

NO OASIS! It is now 8:30 and she is not in sight. Maybe there is something I don't know, but I fully expecxted her top be where I saw her when I arrived yesterday, rightoutside my window.

Here are the current pictures of the Fort Lauderdale port: tell me if YOU see an Oasis there:

felix_the_cat November 20th, 2009 08:40 AM

Don't get too upset :D She was suppose to pull out last night - I knew that a day or two ago. So, everything is going according to schedule. I just have know idea when she's suppose to be back - but if she sank I'm sure you would have felt the Tsunami by now. jk

Now, the full name of your hotel please????

Paul Motter November 20th, 2009 08:55 AM

The Full Name of my Hotel? Didn't I mention the

Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina?

This is the best hotel ever for watching ships - what an amazing view.

I just looked up the new prt facilities for Oasis, ansd they do not look like where she was docked last night (pic is below). So, she may be elsewhere in the prot that I cannot see, but that is kind of like sayuing there's and elephant in the room everyone is ignoring. Plus - she was right outside my window last night.

The ship is HUGE, and I don't see any structures that would be tall enough to hide her. But here is pic of the port from Port Everglades port facility, and I admit this does not look like where the ship was last night:

Now, I admit island Princess is between me and where the Oasis is last night, so maybe I can't see it, but I cant imagine Island Princess would mask Oasis...

ready2gonow November 20th, 2009 09:11 AM

Paul, Good Morning America is broadcasting live from the Oasis this morning. She is probably coming into port, as I write this! Look to sea, I bet you will see her on the horizon.

Trip November 20th, 2009 09:36 AM

Paul, how wonderful you have such a great vantage point to absorb, all the fun! I watched it all on GMA this am....what an amazing feat of shipbuilding..and Adam Golstein in shorts too! Have a ball, and keep us up to date on all the details!

felix_the_cat November 20th, 2009 09:54 AM

Thanks Paul. That's not the one we're booked at and by the look of it, it's pricier than the one we are staying at. I would rather be where you are but not if it's going to cost me a couple of hundred more.

Have you seen her come back yet?

I'm really interested in the embarking and debarking.

Donna November 20th, 2009 09:55 AM

Wow, those are just amazing pics and video, thank-you Paul! I hope to read your next post when you are onboard!

Royalchump November 20th, 2009 10:19 AM

Thanks Paul, looking forward to more of your posts.

Paul Motter November 20th, 2009 10:20 AM

Finally - here she comes
