Default Voyager of Seas Stuck in the Fog

It looks like Voyager of the Seas and the Carnival Conquest are stuck in Galveston because of dense fog. Both are a day late in departing. I hope the passengers are enjoying their stay in Galveston.

Take care,
Mike

Geees, looks like that here too....I'd hate to be stuck in the fog when I should be out to sea cruising, what a shame.

Hey, Mike,
Thanks for the laptop help.

At least you can now see the Carnival Conquest. A half hour ago I couldn't tell if there was a ship there or not. Hopefully both ships can be underway in a short time.

Take care,
Mike

Heard on the news at 5pm Monday that Conquest sailed...Royal is waiting.

The fog has been a problem for several days now and looks to be around again tomorrow before hopefully moving out.

Default OMG--she is still in port

Luckily got off on Sunday.

Having been stuck OUTside the port of Galveston in a previous fog issue, we were so worried that we would not be able to debark on Sunday morning. We did the B2B so were already on the Voyager for 21 days. I'm so glad we are not stuck on her outside the port as some ships in Florida & Mobile have been since Sunday. NO WAY I wanted a 23 day cruise.

We were lucky--people would have rioted if the 21 became 23 and counting. Looks like Tuesday maybe for her.

BTW--they set a record with 600 on the B2B, the last Med + the TA.

Hey Ray,
I was wondering about that ship.....why did they bring a ship over only to be replacing it in 2011 ? That is the rumor anyway right...a Radiance class ship from Royal in Galveston?

Yes, that is the rumor and by chance just today I emailed my contact at RCCL to see if that was still being discussed. This is the 3rd year for Voyager in Texas and they are scheduled for next year as well. Hopefully we will then get the Radiance class ship full time. RCCL is doing this to counter Carnivals plan to bring the new Magic to Galveston. Did you see that Carnival confirmed the order of a 3rd new ship? So there will be another after the Magic.

Almost 9:00 am and she is still there. No fog now. She must be debarking some pax that want to bail. I'm so glad we were able to get off on Sunday.

As of 9:26 a.m. she is just pulling out to sea. At least they'll get part of their cruise. I wonder what ports will be bypassed.

Take care,
Mike

So...will they get compensated? I would think they should at least get back their port fees. I fully realize it's not RCl'S fault - noone can control mother nature. However, if some people off-loaded I'm assuming either they had insurance or came to an agreement with RCL (or were just too angry to enjoy what was left of their holiday.)

It appears RCL actually stepped up to the plate on this one. I've read that they are giving certificates worth 100% of the value of the cruise to those who chose to leave the ship.

We took advantage of the 100% return on another cruise. We already missed Roatan and the ship was full of very, very inactive seniors. Now, we are not spring chickens but I have seen more active and fun nursing homes!

These people were barely able to move around - even with all of the helpful devices being used. They were rude and many seemed to not be able to remember when their last shower was.

Combining the lack of a cruise like atmosphere with the missing two days of a seven day cruise was just too much. We will take our chances on a later date. The only problem is we don't know if there is a time limit for using the voucher. 12 months may not be long enough due to new job responsibilities. This was to have been our last good vacation for at least a year. I hope we don't get taken on this deal.

The normal allowed time is 12 months and it actually has to be taken during that 12 months not just booked.

Being no spring chicken myself I guess I find your decription of the older members cruisers a bit "off". As you left the ship before it actually left the dock and there wasn't anything to do while on the ship I would say you're being a bit harsh.

Not meaning to be harsh - just truthful. I have been passed at the mall many times by some very active seniors in their walking shoes. These were not the seniors on that particular trip.

Inability to move does not excuse rude behavior. When you are blocking the only exit and can't or won't move - don't get mad at others for needing to get off and on the elevator or down the hall.

There were several on scooters that should have had a stern talking to about their driving skills - or lack of! A scooter does not give you the right to own all walkways at all times. I could have gotten on the elevators in front of them instead of waiting and letting them go first - even though I had waited for numerous cars before they arrived - no thank you, no smile - just gun the gas and you had better not be in the way.

There were no smiles or hellos or the usual general friendliness that we have encountered on past cruises. I realize being stuck in the fog was not helping personalities but it really made us think about what we were going to be experiencing for 5 more days.

We actually prefer an older crowd because we aren't the party kind of people - drinking and dancing late into the night is not our thing - but this particular cruise was just too old for our liking.
