Default Labadee Update - Press Release

Based on the following statement from Royal Caribbean, it appears that the line's initial assessment is that no visible damage to the area was noted; however, further investigation continues. Independence is scheduled to stop there on Friday.

My sister is on the Independence & due to stop there this friday. i emailed with her today & she indicated she hopes the ship can find another port as most passengers are fearful of going to Hatti at this time.

We'll have to wait and see if the ship does go there, if so, it would mean the new pier had no damage, which is a good sign.

Was watching the news earlier and the pictures look pretty bad, I feel for the people there, such destruction

While it's been a while since I been to Labadee, I loved the craft area, which, to my knowledge was all local people. With all the devestation, could they even get there? I don't think many would want to leave their familys. Some might, if they, could make some money to help get back on their feet.. I personally think Friday is a bit to soon to go back in..and I am not talking about after shocks...

Here's an update from the cruiseline on Labadee; sounds like they believe everything is ok on the island.

There is a new update on the chairman's Blog on Royal's website. After reading it I am proud to be a loyal Royal cruiser. I'm sure the relief efforts they are providing as well as the continuation of their visits to Labadee are much appreciated and will help some in the recovery efforts of this devastated country. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those suffering because of the earthquake.

I know of at least 3 U.S. Navy ships that are on their way to offer aid, so there also might be an issue of there being room for all of the relief ships. One of the ships is the Carl Vinson, which is an aircraft carrier, and my husband (he's a contractor) is on board. The ship left Tuesday to be delivered to San Diego after refueling in the shipyard. They were heading to FL, but it was announced this morning that they are heading to Haiti.

Also saw that on the news, so the only other major problem will be lots of ships in the area....Lets just hope the relief gets there soon, those poor people need lots of things.
