Default Say goodbye to paper docs

Royal Caribbean has officially launched eDocs and will only provide paper docs for a fee of $35. I suppose if you don't have internet (you're not reading this...) your TA could print em up and send them to you.

They also claim that their website will offer a place where you may order pre printed luggage tags for free.

The docs are easy to print off a computer...

We booked a last minute cruise and were worried about our luggage tags. We ordered them on line and received them within a week. No problems.

Yes, this was announced some time ago. However your TA can have RCL send baggage tags directly to you. (no fee) That's what I'm doing for my clients now. The problem is when you print the tags you are either going to get black and white, which is basically useless or cost a fortune to print them in colour.

I either email the e-docs to my clients or, if they aren't able to do it themselves for one reason or another, I will print them off myself. You need to hope you have a printer that will do 2 sided or it can get really expensive printing the whole works. Even then, it's a lot of paper if you have to print the complete document. If my clients are cruising savvy I don't print them all. (It can be as much as 33 pages.)

Pretty soon you'll be able to use your iPhone or iPod Touch to confirm documents and boarding. Give them a few years for cruise lines, but they are testing it now on some air flights. Pretty cool IMHO.

I use a Blackberry - will they have it on there???

As for e-docs - over all I like them because it saves me money. So many of my clients are out of town - anywhere in the U.S. Canada and England for the most part and when I have to send the tickets it costs be a bomb in postage (very expensive in Canada) so this way I can do most of them online.

The last couple of lines we cruised, HAL and NCL, we had to print our docs online ourselves. RCI is just going the way of other lines.

As my first RCCL cruise is approaching I was wondering why I had to order luggage tags and have them mailed? Why dont they just include them with the E docs like other lines do? Do they think not everybody needs them?

There will be at least one luggage tag with your e-docs and directions on how to fold them and/or make others. They will be in black and white. The point of being able to order them is if you want the coloured ones with the sticky stuff on the back.

We were able to print them in color for HAL Zuiderdam. We then stapled them on our bags, we did not need the sticky.

I am thinking, since this cut into profits of agencies, that this cost was more than likely passed on to customers. So this actually saves us a little-to print our own docs.

No, unless your agency chargesany kind of extra fee the cost is absorbed by the agency.

Hello Mike-Suz, it has been awhile since I've been on this board. Hope you are both doing well. (In case you don't recognize the name, it's me, Sheila, from Freedom last year) Anyway, I plan on going on Serenade this September and noticed the e-docs portion on my reservation. I was a little hesitant at first, but now, I don't have to wait until the docs are mailed to the travel agent and then she calls me and then we set a lunch date so that I can get the docs. I can just print them off myself. Nice touch (just like the lifevest(less) muster drill). I hope to see you guys again, but I don't think it will be on Oasis or Allure.

called rci because I am tired of waiting for my travel agent to e-mail me the documents. I usually don't use one, but I booked the cruise through her because they were the best price via Cruise Compete.com. Anyway.... RCI stated, besides for the luggage tags (which the porters have at the pier), there is really nothing in them you need for boarding. She stated all you needed was your sign and sail card form filled out and to have completed the online check-in. All cruise lines are different, just sharing an FYI.

Just curious, jdh. We can see and print our documents on the Princess site and the Carnival site. You can't do that on the RCI site?
Thanks for any info,

My agent is great with emailing my docs. I print out the few pages that are needed and get my luggage tags from the Porters at the pier.

I think that is true no matter the line, they will have the records of you booking. I know twice we booked last minute, less than 3 weeks before the cruise, back some years ago, before the online check in. once on RCI, and once on Disney. They had the info at the pier that we were booked.

It was fun to receive the packet. That was for the first few cruises. After that almost all of the information went into the round file.

I do like e-docs. 95% of the information isn't needed. Actually 100% of it isn't needed. All you REALLY need is identification (hopefully passport) and a credit card. The express-pass is just something that makes things a "bit" easier.

If you do not have your Express Pass when you enter the terminal, and it's asked for, just let them know you don't have it and they will take your name and ask for ID and check it against the manifest and you will proceed to check-in.

I do like the pre-printed luggage tags over the ones you have to print and laminate yourself. It's just easier.

Take care,
Mike

It's good to hear from you and we both hope you're well!
We couldn't keep up with the likes of you Sheila!
While we were wiped out and fast asleep you were at the

Hey, had it been me, I would have written you back. I'm doing well. Still cruising, still taking care of ma. She'll be 92 on April 26th. Anyway, how are the "kids"? I hope that they are safe. Are they traveling with you on Oasis? I'm sure they would LOVE that . As you can tell by my post, I'm going Southern this year on Serenade. Next year I'll jump back to Eastern or Western.
My "disco" nights are actually spent sitting at the bar watching the young folks dance. If I shook that hard at my age, I'd be minus a few parts that I came with;-) Anyway, let me know what your plans are next year. Maybe I'll change my mind and meet up with you on Allure or Oasis. Take care and I'll chat with you soon.

Ciao

Default What Should You Print

We are sailing on Oasis of the Seas on May 29 and have just completed our online sign in process. We have downloaded the cruise document package and it totals 40 pages.

We would appreciate advice from other cruisers as to which pages (if any) we should print out and have with us when we show up at the pier.

We are going to request that RCI mail us our luggage tags.

Thanks for all your help.

All you need to print out and have with you are:
  • Xpress Pass,
  • Transfer Confirmations (If you have cruise line transfers)
  • Shore excursion(s) confirmation. (If you pre-booked an excursion)
  • Any amenity confirmations.(Bon Voyage gifts, Onboard Credit, drink packages, shareholder credit, etc..)
  • Luggage tags.
  • Specialty Restaurant confirmation.
Otherwise the rest should just be read online and not printed.

Take care,
Mike

Agreed. If you feel better printing something out just do the first couple of pages but they won't want to see them - only your set sail form.

Mike,

BTW, I tried your tip with the clear packing tape on the printed luggage tag and it worked great. Thanks!

Just remember everything that you downloaded the cruiseline already has on their computer, so printing out anything would be for your benefit. Do however, remember to bring along your passport and any documents you may want to have with you, that they don't have.

I did wonder about the luggage tags, love that tip, I'll have to remember that one :-)
