Default Explorer of the Seas cabin location?

Hi,

I'm getting ready to book a cruise to Bermuda on the Explorer. We will be getting a Jr Suite, and I was wondering if one side of the ship is better than the other. (more sun, better views etc) Also are there any special perks getting a Jr Suite over a D1 catagory room? We were going to get a cabin on deck 10, or is it better to get a lower deck?

This is my first cruise on RCL, and I would appreciate any helpful tips you can give me.

Thanks
Gail

Hi welcome to the thread. The perks for getting a junior suite are:
2 cruise credits instead of one for a balcony room
1 More space, especially bathroom and closets; and a larger balcony

Most people agree that the more you are in the middle of the ship the smoother the ride. The best decks for a somewhat smoothest ride would be deck 6-7. The higher up u get the more chance of a little bit more rock. Personally I always go high; I am always on deck 8-9-10. If u have anymore questions please ask; I have been in balcony rooms, junior suites, and grand suites.

cheers

We always cruise in a suite, jr if just me and hubby, owners suite if we take the kids. For some reason we prefer the starboard side of the ship and have always had wonderful views. We also prefer to be on deck 10 not to far from an elevator. It makes it much more convenient with the pools, solarium, windjammer and ship shape spa just one flight of stairs away. There is plenty of space in the jr suite with walk in closet and a bath tub. If you plan to cruise more the 2 cruise credit points for a suite is a plus if you join the Crown and Anchor Society when you return. Was on the Explorer last year and had a wonderful time, the port in New Jersey is not the best, but they get you on the ship quickly. The views are amazing and make sure to have your camera ready on departure it is incredible watching the ship go under the bridge (can't remember the namer of the bridge?).

Thanks for the replys. We booked 2 Jr Suites 9270 and 9272. We wanted connecting cabins but they are rare with 3 in a cabin. Do you know if the balconies can be opened between the cabins? Since booking, the cabin price has gone up about 100.00. I keep checking, hoping to find a day when the price goes down. When is the best time to see a price drop for an October cruise?

Does the port in Bayonne have priority check-in?

I live in Bayonne, and the bridge you are talking about is the Verrazano.

Yes the balcony dividers can be opened, just ask your stateroom attendant to open it for you. I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to when the prices drop you just will havwe to keep checking. I check my prices at least once a week and it is surprising how the prices will yoyo up and down and up again. Thanks for the name of the bridge, had just started scrapbooking our Explorer cruise and you saved me from having to look it up. Happy cruising.

I called Royal Caribbean yesterday and I was told you cannot open the divider between balconies on the Explorer. When looking at the plan for deck nine, there is a blank space across from our cabins 9270 and 9272, do you happen to know what is there?

I'm really looking forward to my cruise in October, I was only on two previous cruises, one on the Oceanic back in 1972 (when I was young and single) and a Carnival cruise in 2002.

Thanks
Gail

It looks to me that u just have a wall across from your suites. Do u see something different across from your suites?

Someone told me it was a laundry room. I have no idea what the blank space is, but I assume there is something there. I don't think they would have much wasted space on a cruise ship.

I would really like to know if the balconies open, when you are in side by side suites. (9270 9272)

Did u use a travel agent to book your cabins? If so ask your agent to check. Not all ships have ability to open balcony dividers.
