Post Disabled Traveler

My husband and I are going on the Navigator leaving Italy June 6th, we are looking for some information from others who have done this before, my husband is independent, but wheelchair bound.
We also heard about shore excursions for disabled but are very expensive for one couple, -the company itself suggests more than one couple to lower prices.

Any advice would be welcome

Thanks Judi

What itinerary are you going on? Ports like San Juan, have streets made from cobblestones are not easy to get around. I noticed in St Thomas the sidewalk drop off is quite high. The Caribbean is not user friendly for anyone with a handicap I am afraid..

Check out Portpromotions.com. I used them and know many who have...Find out from them, if they can plan user friendly excursions for you, perhaps at a more moderate price, especially if more then one port is involved. We had a private car, and, the chair, may fit neatly in their trunk...

I would also advise not to leave the chair unattended..I know of someone who left their dad's chair in the hall overnight, for lack of cabin space, only to find it gone in the am...

Italy has streets that go up and down and can be difficult to navigate however if he is independent and with your help, you should be able to work your way around.

Europe does not have all the laws that force companies to provide services for disabled I'm afraid and with the fact everything is very old you need to plan out your travels.
