Default Royal Caribbean Credit Card/Good or Bad

Hi I have put a down payment on a cruise next year. I am paying for my family of 11. I am thinking of getting a RCI Visa Card to pay for the trip. I read on their website they will give me 10,000 bonus points on my first qualifying charge. Thats $100 OBC right there. My cruise will cost a total of $11,000 for the 11 of us. Please chime in if you have a card or if you think this is a good deal. I do not keep balances on credit cards; there is no annual fee. Thanks.

I think the RCI Visa Card is one of the better affinity cards. The awards are good and it is easy to obtain them when you are ready to redeem points. I let the points build up before redeeming them, but last summer I had enough to get $500 in OBC. I also had my $100 OBC for being a shareholder so it was great to go on a cruise and almost cover my onboard spending without paying much more out-of-pocket.

Not sure how the RCI rewards are calculated, but with the Carnival MasterCard and one must have 12,500 points for $100 OBC. (I thought it would translate 100:1 but it doens't when one reads the fine print).

Yet, I'm seriously considering the Carnival card. Will be interested in hearing what others have to say.

I've had a Royal Caribbean card forever it seems, just have to use up some of the points at some point. I have no major complaints with the card and like you, I don't carry over balances either.

As long as you pay it off every month I don't see a problems.... HOWEVER, there has been a thread on here before about how BOA screwed alot of people with interest rates... Me included..... NEVER been late with a payment and always followed the rules but......... they raised my rate to 24.5 from 9.9 with a 30 day opt out notice. Of course since I "had" a balance I opted out and transferred the balance and cashed in my points.... I sure did enjoy that balcony cabin this past March... I still have the card with a rather large limit but I'm not going to close it out. Unused credit is great for the credit report......

thanks for the info; seems a majority of people who have the card like it and think it is worth having. Other chat boards say the same thing. Thank you.

Besides changing the interest rate, they cut my credit limit in half.....Wasn't crazy about that.

On the contrary. The credit card industry has a name for people like us who pay the balance in full every month: "deadbeats".

So if you pay your credit card off each month, they may lower your credit limit; I would think if you don't use your card regularly they will lower the limit; they want us to buy buy buy.

We use the card for all of our purchases and payoff the balance monthly, just write one check. We just used 125000 point towards a 7 night on Oasis of the Sea in July. We booked the cruise and ordered the coupons from RCI and sent them to our travel agent. Went very smooth, the coupons were worth $1250 each ($2500 total) which we applied toward a balcony cabin. As pricey as the Oasis is we would not have spent the money for the experience but I think it is worth it with the coupons. Also, remember, all charges you put on your card with RCI count as double points.

This card seems too good. I have a bank credit card and I get between 1-3% cash back, which I can use to pay off the credit card or they send me a check for the amount. But with the RCI Visa card I can apply the points for obc. Since I will be taking my family of 11 next year, I will need all the obc I can get.

I've had my card since 2001. A few years ago I cashed in 75,000 points and got a free companion 7 day cruise. It was valued at about $1100.00. That was for a balcony stateroom. I paid the difference and upgraded to a Jr. Suite. The difference was about $200.00. I also don't carry a month to month balance. It's a good card.

I've had one for quite a while and have accumulated 56,000 points, so I have more than enough for a free 4 night cruise for two ( plus tax and fees) whenever I want to redeem them, or if I keep saving them I might wait and get a free 7 night cruise for two.... I'm gonna spend the money anyway, so might as well get something back. You get double points when you book your cruise with the card, so they can accumulate fast..

Just received my new card today. Will activate it and start using it; one more question. When you pay your monthly bill can u pay online at Bank of America's website or do you send a check?

A "good" customer of a credit card company is someone who is continually up to the limit & pays only the minimum each month. They don't want people who never borrow any money.

I also am one who pays at the BOA website. You can schedule the payment to be done on the due date, which for me is actually better than my on-line banking since they will deduct the payment several days before the due date.

OK, so I have my new card and have started using it. Who and how will I be notified about the Royal Points; will Bank of America notify me, will Royal Caribbean notify me, will it show up on my statements; or will I receive a quarterly notice? thanks for any answers

Every statement will have your total points, and it shows the ones you just earned..

Donna, so if I elect to canx paper statements and go with online the points will still show up. Since I just set up my account online I haven't canx the paper statement; since I want to get one paper statement to make sure they have my correct mailing address; etc. I will be on the lookout. And I guess by what RCCL website says I will receive 10,000 bonus points after my second statement. I guess that want to make sure I am using it.
Cheers

I'm sure the online statement is the same as the paper, number of points should still be on there.
