Default Royal Caribbean surprised us...

It looks to me like some of their prices have gone UP rather than down.

Now - the trick there would be to see if that works. Naturally, if it doesn't they will be dropping prices later (which is a reason to change the price guarantee).

I thought prices would be going lower, but going higher makes sense, too, since that coulsd easily lead to lowering prices later.

When I say I see higher prices I am specifically looking at Oasis. Every cruise in 2010 is now over $1000 (and even higher) - the $899 prices are gone.

This is where you need the sage advice of a specialist cruise travel agent..As I peruse the many cruise emails I get..the ocean view cabins on the Oasis are between $1500 ~$1600....so high !!!

Well... the thing about Oasis, and Solstice, too, is that they only have a few inside cabins on the whole ship, and even oceanview, so they only price them slightly lower than the verandah cabins.

Generally a balcony guarantee should only be about $200 more than an inside.

But I don't see the prices on these ships getting cheaper until after fall 2011 - right now anyway. Typically the fall of 2010 should be a value season but it appears they are trying to keep prices up.

My feeling is: Oasis is still new and Allure will coming online soon, so they are both novelties in the cruise industry. I am going to wait them out and when the novelty finally wears off, I will look at booking them. I am sure the new Disney Dream is selling at a premium

Count me in on the waiting game too! The deals are more difficult to find BUT they are "out there" so the hunt continues, Robbie

Royal Caribbean has a new "Best Price Guarantee" policy - it is only applicable for the first 48 hours after you make your reservation.

As a result - Royal Caribbean has been dropping prices like crazy lately.

SO - IF YOU BOOKED A CRUISE BEFORE THEY CHANGED THEIR POLICY ON MAY 17, 2010, YOU ARE STILL ELIGIBLE FOR A BEST PRICE GUARANTEE.

Royal Caribbean prices have dropped like crazy - do not forget that you are still eligible.

You're right Paul. It's been like pulling teeth to get real answers. They've changed their C&A policies to keep people booking early, but frankly, I don't think it's going to work. Most who sail frequently and know the ropes, will be waiting it out.

Question

Guess I'm not the only one confused We booked the Explorer on May 19th-2 days AFTER the policy change. Not paid in full, balance due Oct.28. My TA said if there was a price drop we'd get it, didn't mention anything about paying the balance early though. BUT, if we do have to cough up the balance early and then the price drops AGAIN, are we outta luck?

And where you paid in full or just the deposit? Either way-nice credit!

We booked the cruise last December, and it was under deposit. RCI lowered my final payment by the $200, which I will make in July.

That was before the changes of May 17th so you will be entitled to all reductions right up to 72 hours prior to departure.

I have cruised on the Oasis and have booked the Allure. I find that life is too short to worry about the price.

Hi Manuel,
I see you are going in mid Jan, if you like it enough, you may want to cruise again with us on Oct. 2, 2011 :-)
