Need Help Explore North Shore of O'ahu

We are taking a late flight home from Hawaii around 7:30 PM. We want to spend time on the Island the last day before heading to the airport. There is a R.C.North Shore and Airport DROP-OFF tour for aprox. $80. It takes you to the Valley of the Temples, Ko'olau Mountains, Sunset Beach and a few more sites. Has anyone taken this tour and was it worth the trip? We did the PH and Memorial tour years ago.

Would appreciate your comments and recommendations,

112 days and counting!!!!

The north shore is kind of boring in the summer - the big waves come in the winter. That is the main attraction there.

We once just took a drive around Oahu - did the circle route, and there are some very nice views.

I see no reason not to take it. but you could probably rent a car for less. Just map out your path carefully before you set out or you could hit lots of traffic.

We had some people drive us from Honolulu around Diamondhead and we did the full circle in a few hours - it was a LOT of fun. Try to avoid the inland highways - they get very crowded.

At least its something to do, instead of sitting at the airport...sounds interesting. May-be someone that has actually done the tour will post.

I used to live on Oahu. Like Paul mentioned; the waves at sunset beach in the summer are about 1-2 feet; sometimes it almost looks like a lake; now in the winter months the waves go from 12-25 feet; it takes around 45-60 min to drive from south shore to north shore; thats if you go straight thru the middle of the island; if u drive around the island it will take u about 2-3 hrs because u have to drive thru all the small towns. u could just rent a car and drive to Waikiki beach and spend the day.

We are looking for a tour that will keep our luggage for the day. We don't have a flight till 7:30 pm. I thought the temples may be worth seeing. Is there very little to see on the North side that it would be a waste of time?
