Default Ft. Lauderdale Taxi Question

In April we took a cab from the port terminal to the airport. The driver refused to used the meter and charged us $15.00 for the minute ride. Does anyone know if this is legal or just something they get away with

There is probably a flat fee to drive to the airport.

Yep, flat rate very common on such a short trip but I would add that we go to the transportation stand for shared ride in FLL. Handed a chit with exact fare amount on it before entering the vehicle.

FLL has adopted a flat rate to the port and downtown areas. While it may be $15 per cab it is still a better deal than the cruise line transfer. On my last Princess cruise they wanted $25 per person. Now that's a rip-off.

Take care,
Mike

Default FLL Taxi

Thanks all...Normally when there is a flat rate it is posted inside the cab and the driver made no attempt to explain.

I have the same question. In our last May 8 cruise, a taxi driver charged us $5/pp for a group of 5 people so it $25, because it was a big SUV. He did not use the meter.
On the way back, May 18 we splitted our group and paid $15 flat rate per trip. I think, whatever driver said I pay for that, I don't have time to ask him why. I checked with port's shuttle the fair was higher than taxi and have to wait for a full shuttle to departure. We don't want to seat in the shuttle and have to many stops.
We booked a flight at 11:30am out of FLL and have lot of time at airport. It was very easy and quick to get off Oasis.
