We are thinking of going to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens or the waterfall, cave and lagoon tour in the AM. Want to find a beach for relaxing, little swimming close to the ship after the tour. Is there a beach walking distance or short taxi ride away?

I found some information about the port of Hilo. No Beaches in walking distance. According to my research the closest beach (2.5 miles) is Richardson Ocean Park (black sand beach) adjacent to this beach is Leleiwi Beach Park.These beaches are suppose to be good for snorkeling. Be careful with the currents the beaches on the Pacific ocean can have strong currents at times. I hope that helps.
