Default RCI offer... you can pay, and, stay:)

Of course this is not for everyone, including me...when it's over, it's over, but, it will be interesting to see how many people take advantage of this option.......what say you?

Would you pay $35 to have a few extra hours on a cruise ship? ? USATODAY.com

Gee: I can lug my carry on around the ship, while they do the turnaround, for six more hours. I think I'll pass.

Take care,
Mike

This would be for those with later flight times, and don't want to sit in the airport for the extra hours. If my flight time was say after 4pm, I'd rather keep my swim suit in my carry-on and sit at the pool for the day and then leave the ship in the afternoon. Another advantage would be not having to fight with other passengers disembarking for a taxi if I needed one. Just grab a taxi from an arriving passenger as I'm leaving. I could see this.

Most of us have air/travel plans made BUT I travel quite a bit and have had the occasion where this word be a real benefit. Had customers in May who could have used it too so it soitenly isn't for everyone but I can see why they charge for it (since most of us are in line already to get on the ship ;>)

I definitely wouldn't pay for that.. you're out of your room anyways so I'd feel as if I overstayed my welcome on the ship.

Access to public areas is great, but no access to your cabin to change clothes and relax? No thank you!!

Plus it would suck watching all the new guests come aboard knowing that my vacation is over, and theirs has barely begun.

does the article mention being able to stay in your cabin so you don't have to lug your luggage around? On my Allure of the Seas trip next Jan the only nonstop flight to my hometown is at 3:30pm. So I would have to think about it

No way I'd pay $70.bucks to stay aboard for a few hours longer. Mostly just to eat lunch again in the buffet.
I wonder how this is going to pan out with people on the ship when others are starting to come aboard. Seems like this could cause some confusion--think I'd pass on that even if it was a freebie !!

Now, I would consider that a complete waste of money. If I can't have the cabin why would I want to slep my "stuff" around with me?

Our last few cruises I've put us on 11 am flights and still had time to kill at the airport. No way would I pay to hang around the ship. Nothing is open!!!!!

Ummm, NO! I'd rather sit at the airport.

There are a lot of European cruisers whose flights home from Florida airports are in the evening, who have to rent a 'day room' when they can find one, at a local hotel. It costs more to do that, so I see this being fairly popular. Beats sitting in an airport that's for sure

I would pay to stay on the ship, when we have a late flight.

We always drive to the port-the sooner we hit the road the better! But a few years ago, a couple we knew whom we hadn't seen for ages was starting their cruise as we finished-on the same ship. We tried to hook up with them but it was impossible. We would have paid the extra $$ to spend some time with them.

A day room is not necessarily more expensive than staying on the ship for a couple of extra hours. That charge of $35 is per person and you have no real amenities with it. Also, you have to slep your own stuff. At least with a day room you can leave your baggage behind and do what you want.

I would take a day room anytime if necessary.

The article doesn't really address the luggage situation. I would assume that the cruisers who do pay the extra $$ to stay onboard, would put their checked baggage outside their cabin the night before as usual and would pick the luggage up in the terminal when they do get off the ship. So all you would have to carry around onboard would be your hand luggage or carry on. For me, that is just one small shoulder bag. So if I had the choice of sitting for hours in an airport because my flight was later in the afternoon or evening, or sitting at the pool onboard, I'd pay the money to stay onboard. However, on my upcoming Europe cruise we have an 11:30am flight home from Barcelona, so it won't be an issue for me.
