Question RCI Cruise Care Insurance

RCI's travel insurance seems quite reasonably priced and pretty comprehensive. Has anyone ever put in a claim? How easy (or difficult) was the process? We purchased the same plan last year through Celebrity and put in a small claim for damaged luggage without any problem but I wondered if anyone had ever put in a claim for a last minute cancellation or a missed cruised.

It has always been recommended on this site to get 3rd party insurance. You can check out many companies and plans at insuremytrip.com. We always use CSA or TravelGuard. Filed 1 claim in 29 cruises and CSA paid within 3 weeks.

I agree, it does pay to shop around, even for travel insurance...There are many to choose from, you just need to find the one that is good for you....You can also compare the different costs as well.

As you are Canadian you need to be careful where you buy insurance. If you cancel and are insuranced by the cruiseline they don't usually give you your money back - the do give you a credit for 75% which has to be used within a year.

You should buy your insurance from a Canadian carrier not an American one. You're rights are not the same.

Felix, that is good advice; I never thought of that.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. 3rd. party insurance makes sense. In the past we have always used CSA, even though we are Canadian. A few years back DH came down with a respiratory infection while on board and we ended up with a $600+ bill. I called CSA as soon as we got home and they told me to submit the bill to our insurer (Ontario Health )then submit the balance to them. OHIP took 2 months to send me a grand total of $28.57 Can. I sent the claim in to CSA plus a copy showing the 28.57 and within 2 weeks I received a cheque for the balance-in U.S. funds no less! We have private insurance that will cover major problems like evacuation or out of country hospital bills but our major concern is cancellation within the 70 days after we pay our balance. Or getting delayed (we drive) and missing the ship. Think we'll probably go with CSA again. Most Can. companies won't insure DH because he's over 75. So life stops when you get to be 75?

I always use CSA now too, their prices are reasonable and they handle claims fairly quick. I actually had to make 2, the first went very quick, the 2nd took more time, but eventually they paid what they were supposed to.
