Default Luggage tags Help

My wife, daughter and mom are cruising shortly. We only received luggage tags for the one room (wife and I) not my daughter and moms. We received 8 luggage tags. Should we just put those tags on all four parties bags since we have adjoining rooms or is it necessary to get a porter to have the luggage tags mom and daughter. Thanks

Check the tags carefully and verify they are all for the same room. You've probably already done that but it doesn't hurt to ask.

You can do it either way. Put the tags on all the bags, especially if the rooms are next to each other or in close proximity.

Or just ask the porters for luggage tags when you drop your bags. Make sure you have a pen and fill in the information. It will only take a couple of minutes.

Either way you'll get the luggage.

Take care,
Mike

It would be easier to just use your luggage tags on there luggage. Sometimes there is a line to get blank tags on your luggage at the port. It is easier to just drop your bags off and head inside to check in. It doesn't matter either way although I think the pre-printed tags are quicker to get delivered to your room. Have fun on your cruise.

I have never seen a line for tags, the porters always had handfuls of them.

We had lines to get tags on in New Jersey and in LA when the tags were destroyed by the airlines. We won't ever put them on before our flights again.

I have a question re luggage tags .My TA told me to put the name of her agency on my tags . I usually have my name and address .My TA said its not safe to do so and that if my baggage is lost it will be returned to her .

Any thoughts on this ?

Henry,I would want my name on the cases...not the agency. Never had issues getting back my misplaced luggage...why have it go somewhere else?

Wouldn't work for me. We're in Ohio, our TA is in Arkansas.

Can't imagine why your TA would say it "isn't safe" to put your own name on your luggage tags.

We use both sides of our personal luggage tags. One side, which we use coming home, has our home info. The other side has the name of the hotel, ship, dates, etc. We also put a copy of our itinerary in the bag's that we check.

We never put on our ship tag's on until we're off the plane. I know many people do, but I've heard of them being ripped off, so we don't !

In 30 years of travel I have always used my home or office name and address on my luggage. I can see no reason to put the TA's name on the tags. It just complicates things and could make finding your luggage even harder. If they are looking for John Doe's luggage and they find a luggage tag with "Good Buddy Travel" on it then they could easily pass it up.

Perhaps the reason this suggestion was made is because, if your luggage is stolen, the thief knows your home address. I can understand the concern but the chances of someone then going to your home and robbing it are EXTREMELY remote. There is being careful and going overboard.

One thing I strongly recommend is that you put your cell number on your baggage tags. Both ship and airline. It doesn't do much good to have your home number on it if you're not at home.

Take care,
Mike

We always use our home address but my TA made it seem as though we were the only ones to do so

To each his own--but-- I would not and do not put my home address and info. on luggage tags. I put my wife's name, C/O her work address, or my company I retired from, as they have an office 3-4 miles from where I live and everyone there knows me. We live about 3-4 miles from either place so it would not be a problem to go pick up a piece of luggage. My T.A. is in Pa. so that would be a little far , as in several hundred miles, for me to have to go to to get luggage but I'm sure she would ship it to me if the need arose. If you put your home address, it gives thieves the info as to where you live,, they can then easily look up your phone number and bingo--they have all the info they need to set up a fraudulent phone account in your name, along with other accounts as well.
I'm speaking from experience-- Several years ago, we would put our home address on out tags-- someone , either at the airport, the porters or on the ship took our info, (I'm pretty sure it was someone on the ship ) set up a fraudulent phone number in our name, made over $1200.00 in phone calls to Europe, It took forever to get it straightened out and then only by going to our states public service commission for their help.
That was several years ago and the thieves are more sophisticated now than back then.

I would suggest to anyone, don't put your home number and home address--use your work number and address.
If you work there, they surely know you and if someone called regarding lost luggage, I'm sure they would pass on the info to you.
Just my little experience but as I said, to each his own.

I generally put my business card in the luggage tag holder, much easier. I should add my mobile number to it though; good idea incase it gets lost. As for the cruiseline tags, always put them after you collect your luggage from the airline and if you're staying in a cabin nearby your own, just use your luggage tags; they'll get delievered.
