Talking Voyager of the Seas poll

Hi all I'm thinking of taking a cruise with RCCL again. My last cruise with them was in 1994 so it's been a while. There was nothing wrong with that cruise (it was my honeymoon). I'm just cheap and the Carnival cruises were less money. Anyway I'm been on the Carnival ships, Freedom and Splendor and going on the Conquest seems boring to me. My hubby and I want something new. New ports and a new cruise line. So I'm willing to bite the bullet and spend the money.

I hope people will tell me more about the Voyager of the Seas. What is your favorite thing about the ship? How hard is it to get tickets to the ice show? What is the difference between the inside cabins? Is a Promenade stateroom worth the extra money? Also I'm putting a poll on here. Which of the 2 Galveston cruises would you chose and why? Thanks for your help.:-D

I voted for the second choice because I would prefer those ports, but I know that you would enjoy either one.

I will be on the Voyager OTS in September. However, I have sailed on the Mariner OTS and the Adventure OTS, her sister ships. I can't help with the interior rooms, but there is no problem getting the ice show tickets. Just watch the Cruise Compass for when they schedule the handout of tickets, it's first come first served.

I chose the second because it is more water related and I've done Cozumel too many times.

The best thing about the ship is that you won't be bored. There is always something going on and the Promenade parade, shops and restaurants are interesting.

I got a glance at and inside cabin when I was on Voyager and it didn't look too large but I'm not a good judge of an inside cabin because I do have a prejudice toward them. You could price out a promenade cabin.

I had no problem getting tickets for the ice show. There was a large group of Cruisemates and I just walked up and asked for tickets for the whole group and they handed me a stack of them.

I think you should expand your cruising horizons and try Voyager.

Take care,
Mike

My husband and I did a Mediterranean/Transatlantic on the Voyager in 2008. We LOVE the ship. I would go anywhere on it!

I am pretty sure you will have a nice cruise on Voyager of the Seas!

The main dining room is impressive with its crystal chandelier and 3 decks height.
The Royal Promenade is where a lot of the action is. A favourite spot is the Café Promenade for some snacks or a pizza slice and just watch the world go by.
The pool deck is also very nice with the two pools next to each other, and the third pool in the solarium area.
The view over the pool deck and the ocean is great from Viking Crown Lounge.

I would definetly choose a promenade cabin over an inside, but it's only about $100 up to a sea view.
I have to admit that I have not had a promenade cabin onboard Voyager but rather often on ferries between Sweden and Finland (the Promenade on the Silja Line ferries were the role models for the Royal Promenade on Voyager-class) and I think it can be fun to watch what is happening on the promenade.

I think that if you go for a promenade cabin in either end of the promenade, as high up as possible (deck 7 or 8 ), it should not be too much noise (I guess that the pub and sports bar in the middle of the promenade are a bit more noisy than the Champagne bar and Café Promenade) but I have no own experience of this.

Thanks for the information on Voyager of the Seas. I'm really thinking about the promenade stateroom. I'm a night owl so the noise from the promenade won't be a big issue for me. It's good to know it fairly guess to get tickets to the ice show. It's looks like the vote is getting pretty close between the two cruises. I'm worried that Roatan Island might have civil unrest and the cruise line will have to skip the port.

We were on Roatan in May. There were no problems at that time. We weren't impressed with the island but we did hire a car and driver with another couple. Just as we were ready to drive away this young girl hopped in and told us she was our guide as she spoke English and the driver didn't. She spent 10 minutes telling us how she wasn't paid and needed tips (at the end she told us she didn't share her tips with the driver.)

Also, about 25% of the time she talked politics of the island. How they were going to overthrow the mayor instead of waiting for the next election. I'll be honest, I didn't put much credence in what she said about that. She did have the driver stop in front of the mayor's house - don't really know why.

We were taken to a nice beach but only had about 10 minutes there. It was lovely though.

All in all, I doubt I would get off the ship if we were to go again.

Felix the cat thanks for the heads up with Roatan that port is my biggest concern with that cruise. Plus Grand Cayman looks like a nice place. But then I have been wondering about Snorkeling in Belize as well. So I'm still confused.

One of my favorite shore excursions of all time was cave tubing in Belize. They took us on a bus ride through Belize City on our way to the jungle and we had a great guide. The cave tubing itself was really fun, i'd do it again if we ever get the chance to go back to Belize.

It may still be the largest chandelier at sea. The following Voyager class ships built didn't make them as quite as large. I'm not sure if it's still so since the Oasis is now out.

Kat--I have 6 or 7 reviews of the Voyager on my blog.
