We're going on the Explorer in Jan. -our first RCI since 1977. Not one person picked food as one of their favorites I'm getting worried.

My opinion - food has sunk to an all time low on RCL. Chops is great but you have to pay extra. Main dining room - really hard to find something that either isn't awash in salt or has any taste whatsoever.

We prefer the MDR for all our meals but might resort to the buffet. Any better, in your opinion?

You can get almost the same at the buffet but I think it's fresher or better cooked.

I've just found that RCL/Celebrity are cost cutting too much in the MDR and cutting back too much on staff. Most of the time the food is also cold. At least in the buffett you can get food that is hot. In saying that we found the buffet on Solistice for dinner the worst possible. We actually got up and walked out after trying to eat a couple of mouthfuls.

We Only eat at the main dining room and have never tried Chops or any of the other dining options (even on the Oasis).

For me the food is good in the main dining room and I never had to complain or send back a dish.

We here on the boards can tell you our experiences with the dining room but you will have to try it and form your own opinion.

You may or may not like the dining room. Give it a try the first night or two and if it is not to your liking then you can try the buffet or speciality restaurants.

Enjoy!

Food is a very subjective thing. What one person likes, another will hate. I am of the opinion that RCI has been bringing their food quality back up in the last couple of years. They did let the quality fall some years ago, but I thnk it has gotten much better lately. But there are some that may still not like it. You need to try the different dining venues and decide for yourself.

My last RCI cruise was in 1994. I'm thinking of trying them for my next cruise. This food issue is my biggest worry. We went on Celebrity in 2006 and the food in the MDR was horrible. You said they have improved since then so my question is. When was your last cruise on RCI? Which ship? and was the food pretty good? We are looking at eith Voyager of the seas or Marnier of the seas. I'm not that picky. I just want the steaks to be tender and things to not be to salty.

We've been on Mariner and AOS in the last 3 years and thought the food was good. It has definetely improved since 1994. If you are looking for a great steak you might want to try Chops.

For anybody following message boards for the past several years, it's been reflected by the posts, that, the food, has deteriorated..Ask anyone who ordered the ranch steak Carnival seems to have surpassed RCI in the food catagory....

The food has certainly changed a lot since 1994. You can see all my cruises in my signature. I like the food on RCI and think it has gotten better in the past few years. But what is good and what is not good is up to each person. What one person thinks is too salty or too spicy, another person may love it salty and spicy.

We have sailed twice on Liberty OTS. No problem with the food, as a matter of fact I ate too much.
Last april we sailed on the Oasis and the food was excellent.

We are Diamon members because of our Celebrity sailings.

The things we liked.
1. Entertainment
2. The Diamond lounge
3. Great service
4. The promenade with it's fun actvities.
5. The Ice show.

I could go on, but I do have to mention the zip line on the Oasis.

I can't wait to sail on the Allure.

Hello again...

In response to the post regarding the food on RCL..

The upcoming cruise we are going on in 78 days will be our 7th and all on RCL. We have NEVER had any issues of any type regarding food whether it's in the dining room, cafe promenade, windjammer.....we are always happy...heck....I DON'T HAVE TO COOK or clean up.......so it's ALL GOOD!!

Some people will probably disagree with me....but to each their own.

HAPPY CRUISING TO US ALL!!

On our last cruise on RCL, we and our table mates thought that the food was excellent. We were sailing with friends who have neen on several cruiselines and they were surprized at how good the food was. Our waitres was excellent and had a sweet personality.

We loved the food
We had some great wine
Saw some great shows
Had some good laughs at the comedy club.
The only thing we did not like was having to leave at the end of the cruise.
