Foreign Currency on Tipping

...for those who don't already know - RCI gives you the option of manually tipping your stateroom attendents, and waiters at the end of your vacation...

does anyone know if foreign currency (non USD but equivolent) is allowed in tipping?

I am sure that a mojor currency, such as the Canadian dollar or the Euro would be accepted.

If you tip in a non ship currency a currency not easily available then you can put the crew member in a position of having to convert to US $ causing a potential fee charge.
You also cause confusion as to how this goes to the crew member directly or to the pool first and what is the current conversion rate.
It is possible the Pursers office might look after this conversion but the main point is someone now has to convert and place into the pool or if above the norm to the crew member.

My feeling is stick to the guideline and currency used by the ship.
What we have done at times is after leaving the tips we also include some local currency that the ship will dock at for them to use when in port.

On a Med cruise we paid the gratuities on our Seapass and then tipped extra in Euros. I think as long as it's a currency that can be used or easily exchanged they won't care where it comes from. Others on our cruise tipped in $ and UK Sterling..

...oh lordy...

...last year my fiancee and I went through a canadian port going through alaska. we converted a few hundred usd into cad. We are getting ready for Bermuda and while packing noticed alot of it missing from the travel kit. I asked her about it she said she used that as tip on our last cruise. I was oh no!!! Is that allowed? RCI didn't say anything, but she figured it was okay since they can get conversions onboard... IDK...
