I will be taking my first cruise as a Platinum Member in Nov 2011. This is my first "elevated" status on any cruise line, where I receive priority boarding. My question is - how does Priority Boarding work? Do I cut the line and then when they check my paperwork they know I'm Platinum? If I go directly to the priority boarding window - do they have a list of people?
I guess I'm not sure how I'm going to get through the throngs of people. Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but reading another post made me think of it.
I can only tell you of my experience a couple of weeks ago at Port Canaveral going on the Freedom of The Seas.We are platinum-- we had to wait in line with everyone else but once we were checked in, there was an older gentleman that we were directed to who had a roped off section of seats for the Platinum members. . Then when it came boarding time, we were ahead of the others and on the ship in no time.
Carnival has a separate room for their platinum check in but at least this particular time with RCCL was as described--no special line, but a special waiting area and then boarding ahead of the throng. Enjoy.
We had a seperate line for Platinum and priority boarding for every cruise we have embarked on since we became platinum. We are now Diamond, but we use the same priority line to board.

If I remember correctly, when we cruised on the Freedom in August, our status was printed on our board pass we printed from RCCL website. It said Priority Boarding so we showed it to a cruise representative and we went into a separate line, checked in and walked on the ship about 11:30am! So fast!

When you print out your Set Sail paper is shows at the top the level you are, just show it to the person and they send you to the priority boarding line.

Of course that makes sense!! That pass would have the info - don't know why I didnt think of it. I guess I'm over-thinking this cruise because its my first European / transatlantic and I'm so excited!!
I don't remember getting on the ship but I do know that when we got off we were in the priority lounge and within 10 minutes after getting there we were off the ship. We could have had a flight by 10:00...
You'll love the transatlantic....very relaxing!!
I understand the over thinking....do it all the time.
They always have decent signage. Make sure you don't miss out on the Platinum member cocktail party they have. Your stateroom attendant will leave the invite in your room!!! Enjoy!
The good news is: We had a special line and a special waiting room.
The bad news is: There were so many Platinum members boarding at the same time as us, the "special" line didn't make any difference. The waiting room had snacks, but we were in and out so quick, we really didn't need them. We had a couple of teens who were all into the snacks and gulping them down as we boarded and headed to the Windjammer...go figure.
Thats so funny, the special line had a line Who'd woulda thunk that? The cocktail party sounds good to me, are the drinks free there?
Last year on Vision of the Seas to the Norwegian fjords yuo could get wine and champagne (sparkling wine) at the coctail party, don't know about regular drinks. I don't know how it is today (I didn't make it to the party a couple of weeks ago on Voyager ot the Seas as I had a reservation at Portofino the same time).
On Vision they also had lots of snacks during this event.
The coctail party is only for Platinum, Diamond and Diamond Plus member and is not the same as the Welcome Back party.

The welcome back party is for anyone who is a member of C&A no matter the status. Then there is another party that is for plat, D and D+. They will give you wine/champagne only at that one - drinks can be bought for a 25% discount.
Then there is the CL lounge which is generally for D+ and suite guests only where the drinks are complimentary.

Last summer on AOS, the Plat, D, and D+ party had more than wine. They had several specialty drinks on trays being served by waiters. I don't know if this is every cruise, but we've had a choice on the last 2 we attended.

When you say "last summer" are you referring to 2009 or 2010? Things changed and there are no more mixes drinks except for purchase at a discount of 25%.
