Default Freedom of the Seas

I was wondering if the Freedom of the Seas is a good choice? I have never sailed Royal Caribbean but I would like to. Just need to do my homework.
Thanks

I haven't sailed Freedom class, but Voyageur Class is lovely, so Freedom must be better!

I absolutely loved Freedom of the Seas...While you do some checking, just be sure to look at both Oasis and Allure of the Seas as well. They are the newest with the most choices onboard. We have a Cruisemates group cruise on Allure later this year, Oct. 2, 2011 if that could fit into your plans...

Do you know what islands you want to visit? They basically have ships in all parts of the Caribbean, may help to narrow your search down a bit.

Julia2011,
I see from your signature that you've done lots of Carnivals. As you can see from my signature that I'm similar.

I just got off the Voyager yesterday and will do a long review in the next few days. Overall, I like the Voyager in just about all categories except the food varieties and kids' program. Since those 2 items are high on my list of priorities, its a toss up if I had an even choice between Carnival and RC as my next cruise.

I had thought that RC would have beaten Carnival, hands down...but unfortunately, it didn't. However, the Voyager class is not has new as the Freedom class so my observations might change.

Interesting perspective - dude.

I was quite vocal about not liking DREAM because it did not compare to my memory of Royal. However, almost 10 years had passed between my last Royal Cruise and DREAM. The main reason was I thought the food on Royal was better. Then cutbacks happened! WE cruised grandeur of the seas in September, and it made me realize that in a year to year comparison, the food on carnival was probably better. To be fair, I should compare the Carnival "best" ship with an "old" Royal ship.

We spent our honeymoon on Voyageur, which in its day, was AMAZING. The food back iin 2000 was excellent.

I'm a foodie, so its high on my list. i'm looking forward to sailign HAL next and to see what its like.

Queen,

You've hit the nail on the head!!! I see signs of budget cuts everywhere when it came to onboard food. I voiced this to an 10+ yr employee and he whispered his agreement as saying it openly would have gotten him in trouble. While the cut back is not a show stopper in my book, it just bothered me to see those signs.

Another sign I fear on last week's trip was that every port we went to, there were 3-4 Carnival ships while we were the only RC. I was told RC decided to concentrate on European market. I just hope they don't decide to cut back on the U.S. market too much.

I will be on Freedom in Dec. The ship looks good to me and my kids will love it.

The food on HAL has been given a LOT of attention the last few months - se our articles in the culinary area:
