Bahamas cruise advice

I am booked on my first cruise on 28th Jan 2011 on the Monarch of the seas ( Royal Caribbean) to the Bahamas. I have read about crimes in Nassau. Has someone been on this cruise recently?. I also wanted some tips on the on shore excursions and what to do\avoid. Thanks

Take a quick and inexpensive cab ride over to The Atlantis Resort. The Dig is amazing as is the Aquarium..great restaurants, casino,and shopping, makes for a nice day. Sadly, there is crime everywhere...keep a heads up in port, but the resort is quite safe.

Take the water taxi over to Paradise Island resort and casino. It's only $4.00 each way. It is right there when you get off the ships dock. Taxi's are $8.00 each way. It's very safe there. So are the shops in town. Just stay with all the other shoppers there will be hunderds and don't wander off the main street and get back to the ship before dark. If you like beer try a Kalik (The Beer of the Bahamas) it's like corona. (Bottled in Whaltam, Mass USA)

If you go shopping downtown,go to John Bull..the prettiest store in the Caribbean!

I went in Dec. and walked the streets, had no problems. I was alone, kept one eye open for anyone who appeared to be too close to me (watch your wallet or purse, keep purse near the body and hold onto the strap, wallets not in back pocket), all usual precautions for anywhere. I understand there are other ports that are very seedy.
No matter where you go now days, keep more alert and don't take everything for granted.
