I'm going against my own word - sailing the Allure

Due to circumstances I couldn't refuse I will be on the Allure February 27. I don't know if this is going to be good or bad. I have said from the beginning I didn't want to sail the monster of the seas but when something sort of fell into my lap I had to make a liar of myself.

My SIL is going to be my travel companion on this as DH says he cannot get away. In my whole married life I have never travelled withOUT DH and I've never shared with anyone else.

I have a couple of firsts for myself here.
:p

LOL! You are too funny-however-if you find the experience good-I know I can trust you-my husband would love to go on one those big ships and he wants one of those inside balconies-LOL! Me- not so sure.

BTW-I did not do ROS last month. We canceled the cruise because of my dental surgeries. I am wearing a temporary partial that is miserable to wear and I can't eat with it.

Allure...

Big...you want big...the ''little ship'' next to it is a HAL, probably a 90,000 tonne Vista class!!

felix_the_cat January 17th, 2011 06:35 PM

I understand about the dental surgeries. Been there - and it's so uncomfortable if they don't fit right. Soup gets old fast. ;)

I can only imagine the size. I'm a Radiance class person. However - we will see..................

felix_the_cat January 17th, 2011 06:38 PM

I can't imagine the difference but it looks like a pup vs a elephant.

johnthed0g January 17th, 2011 06:47 PM

That pic was in St.Thomas ...rained all day, went to St.John it was worse there & the beaches were closed so we got back on the ferry!!

That's no fun. I assume you were on the Allure then and had more fun on it? There is suppose to be so much to do. I hope that's right cause I have no desire to get off the ship in either Costa Maya or Cozumel. I was to both those places 4 times last year alone with the last time being in December. I'm hoping to use that time to investigate the ship. At least that way when my clients as me about the ship I'll be able to give intelligent answers.

johnthed0g January 17th, 2011 06:58 PM

Nope, we were on P&O Azura for a month long holiday of a lifetime round the Caribbean & Southern States. We left for St. John from one cruise terminal on the ferry (a special for P&O) but returned to the other one so that's how we saw the ship. I would NOT have liked being in St. Maartin with four ships then that turns up!!

I agree - I would not under any circumstances want to be in a port with either the Allure or the Oasis. Another reason I will be staying onboard.

Donna January 17th, 2011 11:16 PM

I bet you have a wonderful time and may-be even like this class ship....Time will tell, its almost time to start packing...

DiamondMember January 17th, 2011 11:23 PM

Life could be worse, I am also sailing on Allure the same week, have a grand suite. Had it booked for almost a year, looking forward to a whole new cruise experience. This will be my 40th cruise credit with the line, think I get some sort of specialize gift too. See you onboard.

felix_the_cat January 18th, 2011 07:59 AM

Oh for sure it could be worse. :p

We'll be in an inside-I've never done an inside before but because of the offer I don't have any choice. I know I can see if an upgrade is possible under the circumstances but I don't know if it will negate the price we're paying right now.

Anyway. SIL is OK with the inside.

Perhaps we'll see you in the CL or D lounge? Don't know what exactly we're entitled to on this ship as a D+.

felix_the_cat January 18th, 2011 08:00 AM

hmmm This will be my 30th so I suppose I'm entitled to something too. :p

I will be on Allure this weekend, 23 Jan. When I return I will post a review and pictures. I have always posted reviews; so everyone can have a idea of what the ships are like. Cheers

We were on the Oasis in December, we swore we would never go on it. Had a wonderful time. Totally different experience. We also went on the Monarch a few weeks late and totally enjoyed it too.

Oasis I did not feel a connection to the Sea like other ships, more like being at a huge resort. Service was excellent.

Queen of Oakville January 19th, 2011 02:39 PM

On some ships, I've felt like cattle being hearded from the dining room to the theatre to .... on the ship ... off the ship.

Does that feeling get amplified on these huge ships? Or are they designed in such a ways as to make you think it is more intimate?

Trackypup January 19th, 2011 03:44 PM

We were in St. Maarten on the Ruby Princess with Oasis, a Carnival ship and an NCL ship. It wasn't too bad actually. The Carnival and NCL Ships were pretty small but Ruby's no tiny ship. Didn't find it too crowded which was a nice surprise. We were docked right next to Oasis, she looked pretty cool except for the tiny balconies.

For some reason, St.Maarten seems to handle 4 or even 5 ships very well. Maybe it's the layout of Fredrickstaad (sp), it just never seems to be overly crowded-unlike St. Thomas. Charlotte Amalie can be brutal when there are 4 large ships docked.

If I could afford a grand suite-I would not mind the big ship-I would enjoy my suite and forget the rest.

John the Og, I love HAL vista class- what I dislike about HAL is it seems there are way to many smokers.

I wish we could have cruised the Radiance, I am sure I would have loved it. We still may that class, we are still thinking of a southern caribbean on Serenade of the Seas.

We also found a wonderful price for a 15 day Hawaii on Celebrity Century-so who knows which we will book-with my dental bills-we can't do both-I wish! LOL! If it was not for those bills, we would have booked a med cruise and not even be thinking of Hawaii or southern Caribbean-LOL!

Manuel January 24th, 2011 09:09 PM

I just got off the Allure yesterday. It was a wonderfull cruise, I liked so well that I booked the Oasis for next year.
This be my second sailing on the Oasis. I love those big ships.

Hey Manuel,
I hope you are writing a review of your Allure cruise, and some pics too?? Just glad to hear you enjoyed it.

momofmeg May 8th, 2011 03:51 PM

Felix

How was it?

felix_the_cat May 8th, 2011 09:05 PM

Very different. We had a balcony overlooking Central Park which was OK but we hardly saw the sea all week.

The one thing we really didn't like - the dining room. Service was terrible. A couple of examples, our assistant waiter came over - asked us if we wanted anything else tell him now, as he was leaving.

Another night, we were suppose to have comp. wine. It was brought after dessert.

Enterainment was excellent.

We enjoyed the hot tubs. We did find kids in them and that was really annoying.

Overall, glad we went but have no desire to do it again.

Felix, we are finally booked for Italy. We booked another transatlantic for next year as we loved, the one in 2007. I also like not 2 longs flights-but one. We will be on the Equinox, in Nov. 2012.

We will go over early-perhaps spend a week in Italy-or elsewhere in Europe, and we may even book the previous cruise and do a b to b. Hubby just can't plan to take that much time off together 17 months in advance because of his job-he gets 5 weeks vacation-they are just sometimes fussy about him taking too much at one time. If nothing major is going on-he would be allowed though.

We picked this cruise because the previous week is Thanksgiving-so he knows he can have that extra time as he always has Thurs and Friday off. If we can swing it to do the previous cruise, that would be great-it goes to Egypt, Greece, and Naples.

If we can't, we can at least come to Rome a few days early, and take day trip to Pompeii-it is 13 hours roundtrip from Rome-but we found a company that will do it.
