Anyone visit Mahahual or do Costa Maya Dolphin Excursion near pier?

Thnking about taking a taxi from pier to the nearby fishing village to visit flea market. Is it safe to venture there?
Also how was the Dolphin petting excursion?

Mahahual is very safe. Just outside the gate you can get a ticket to get over there. They take you on a bus. Cost was $3 last time I went. Don't get off at the first stop. That is a beach club. Continue to the end of the ride. Return is by taxi. Plenty of them available. Cost was $2pp. Can't help you with the dolphins.
