Default Allure sailing - Feb. 27/11

It was truly amazing and the entertainment made it for us.

Embarking was a breeze. We used the luggage valet for disembarking and we were at the FLL airport by 8:30 AM even with 6 ships in. I would definitely put us on an earlier flight next time.

However we did find a lot of the crew were very surly. We only went to the mdr three times as we really did not like it. The food was good - not an issue - service - not good at all. We felt the dining room lacked the elegance that is on all the other ships. I've never been disappointed in the dining room decor before.

We took the majority of our meals in other areas. We only went to the buffet once for dinner and it was OK.

We found and had a drink in every bar and twice on the rising tide.

Cabins are adequate although small.

Most of all, we missed the sea. We did find it was crowded on the uppers decks and very noisy on Boardwalk. Loved Central Park.

We will go one more time I think only to take our DH's. However if they don't want to go, that's fine. My SIL and I both felt this is a ship that would generally only be done once if it's a cruise you want.

I agree with your analysis of the main dining room. Food was good; but service was lacking. Even after two nights; the staff always seemed rushed; they felt like they could never keep up. We did eat at Giovanni's table; the food was good; but the staff there was a little slow; maybe we went on an off night; I did love the desserts at Giovanni's.

I believe RCL has cut staff back too much. Our asst wanted us to rush because he had to go somewhere else. My SIL was not happy about that. He actually told us he had to go somewhere else so if we wanted anything else - say so. We also did not see a bar waiter nor did anyone offer us a drink. On the last night that we wer there (because we were part of a seminar put on by RCL no less) we were suppose to have wine with our meal. We had already finished dessert when he brought it around. Terrible service.

Our room stewardess was very nice but her assistant was extremely surly. Stood in the hallway most of the time. Never smiled, wouldn't say good morning and we said it first. Terrible. I went back to the cabin for something I had forgotten just as he was heaving my pillow onto the floor - and I mean heaving it. He quickly ran around and picked it up when he saw me.

Our cabin steward was great; don't know if he had an assistant; but he was on top of his game. Even let us stay onboard on Sunday morning; we didn't leave the ship until 10:15 on Sunday.

I must say that we had an excellent cabin stewardes. She was probably the best that we have ever encountered.

We had all our meals on the MDR, and had no problems with the service. I have never had the same service on other ships as we have had on Celebrity.
But between our last two cruises on the Oasis and the Allure, they were friendly and courteous, just not as efficient as they should be.

I know the entertainment on Freedom of the seas was excellent, can't imagine a water show, etc. on Allure of the Seas, plus an ice show...Can't wait.

Donna, Allure is a eyeopener. So much to do; shows are great; and u never have a dull moment onboard. Royal Caribbean has put the WOW factor back into cruising.

Felix the cat, my fiance and I were on the same cruise on Feb 27th! The weather was absolutely amazing wasn't it?! It was only our second cruise, but we found the service to be great. I give all those workers a lot of credit. I would not be able to do the work they do for 9 months without a single day off!
