Hi Trip

I heard about this yesterday.

Apparently the package is open to some of their European cruises - which I think are fairly port intensive and must be purchased for the entire duration of the cruise? So no attraction to someone who spends a lot of time off the ship.

For me who likes the odd glass of wine -far too expensive! I read somewhere that someone has calculated the breakeven point as 20 beers/day - can't tell you which package.

I can imagine certain cruisers who will purchase the package and make sure they get their money's worth - so much for 'responsible drinking' - which is a major UK Health campaign.

I don't know enough about European drinking habits to comment on the attractiveness of the package to them.

Annie

I posted it here yesterday. I think someone's math was way off though, it's only $29 for unlimited beer and house wine a day. Not sure we'd ever get our money's worth, I certainly don't spend $49 a day on booze everyday.

I wonder if the price includes the 15%?

No problem, it's booze it should be posted multiple times

As for the 15%, I read somewhere that the RCI prices include it but the Celebrity one's don't. Don't remember where I read it though.

We talked about that on our Seminars both on X and RCl. For those that really like to imbibe this would work, but not a chance for us. You would have to drin a lot every day to get your money's worth.

The package on Celebrity is so much better. It's premium package include all alcohol drinks up to $12. The big plus is that it includes premium coffee drinks, bottled water, fruit smoothies and all canned soft drinks. So when figuring you daily cost with all beverages included it can be a real deal.

Seems a bit pricey to me, no way would I use that for a glass or two per day...May be good for some though, just not me.

Sounds like a great plan; thanks for the info (insert sound of pen scratching in homework journal)

Annie:

The beer package is $29/day. That would be around 7 beers a day to break even. A beer is around $4.

The Premium Package is probably the best deal if you drink: It would cover 6 - 8, top shelf, mixed drinks/day would be the break even point. It would be about 12 beers to break even but if all you drink is beer than the lower priced beer package is a better deal.

You make an excellent point about RCI rolling this out on port intensive, European cruises. Someone, who had been ashore all day, would have to do some heavy drinking in the evening to get their money's worth. I know 7 drinks between dinner and bed would put me under the table.

Take care,
Mike

It's alittle to high for me I'm not a big drinker. My limit is two per day.

It may be a good deal for those cruisers that are bigger drinkers.

I saw this the other day as I was reading USA Today on break. It is something I will keep a close eye on to see if they offer it on other ships before I sail on Monarch in October. I've been known to run up quite a bar tab when I am cruising, but I have a pretty high tolerance level for the spirits, so yeah. I wish RCI sold bottles like Carnival does via Bon Voyage. I know that my big cruise for this year in November is probably going to end up being the 8n on CCL Freedom, and I plan to buy a bottle of vodka and a bottle of scotch for the cabin.
