We are sailing in April and one of our ports is St. Kitts. I have heard that there are a lot of monkeys there, and it is fun to see them. There are no excursions offered to see the monkeys. I am thinking maybe the best thing to do is to get a taxi when we port and maybe the driver can take us to the monkeys. Has anyone done this, and is it easy to get a taxi from the cruise dock?
We've been to St.Kitts 4 times and I wasn't aware of the monkeys. Sure you're not thinking of Barbados?

I don't remember exactly where (maybe Barbados) but there were numerous men at the port with green monkeys practically throwing them on you and grabbing your camera and then charging you to get your camera back... Well, of course you give them money... They were cute but it's really underhanded. Just be careful!!
Yep, saw the monkeys at "Turtle" beach. YOu need to go into town and get a cab, hopefully sharing it, because its about a 45 minute, very scenic ride. Once there, you'll see plenty of cruiseship passengers. Its very close to Nevis, you can see it from the beach. Great way to spend the day. You may want to insure that your driver will come back for you, only pay him half the fare when he drops you off, that will ensure he'll be back for the return trip. Its a bit costly, so if you can share the cab with others, that is the way to go. They also sell peanuts to feed the monkeys.
Well, that's good to know! We almost went to Turtle Beach last time we were there, then changed our minds and had a day on board. next time for sure!

I have read about Turtle Beach. So, do you think we have a better chance of seeing the monkeys there, or by going to the reggae beach bar instead? Which beach is prettier? Our main goal is to view and photograph the monkeys. If we will see them either place, which is closer and easier to get to. Won't there be taxi's close by when we get off the ship?
The taxi's are in town, just walk into town when you get off the ship. Only having been to Turtle beach, all I can say is, we saw a lot of monkeys. Don't know about the bar place...
