Default Majesty or Monarch - which one do you think has been sold?

It appears that one of the two ships has been or is in the process of being sold to a Korean Company.

Perhaps that is why the Navigator is being brought back to the U.S?

Opinions/guesses?

My guess would me monarch as she's a year older in terms of service; however, both ships are identical - sad to see one go.

I haven't heard that either was going to be sold, but sorry to hear this. Majesty was my first Royal Caribbean ship, and oh how I loved that ship....I think your guess is a good one, time will tell.

What do you base this on? My thought was that the Navagator OTS was brought back because of soft European sales due to the high airfares.

There is all sorts of scuttlebut on another site. The Korean company had posted pictures in their announcement but then pulled them. As the deal hasn't closed yet I understand there were legal issues in using pictures.

I very much doubt the Nav was brought back because of soft sales. There is no indication of that but their is strong indication of a sale.

Well, European sales for all the cruiselines have been soft as reported in last weeks Travel Weekly magazine. The cruiselines are starting to announce fewer ships in Europe in 2012. However, the moving of the Navigator to Ft. Lauderdale in and of itself doesn't mean a ship is being sold......or maybe it does. I reread the RCI press release when they announced the Navigator moving to Ft. Lauderdale, and they mentioned every other ship RCI had in the Caribbean and Bahamas EXCEPT the Monarch. It mentioned that the Majesty was going to continue to do short Bahamas cruises, it didn't say anything about the Monarch. So that could lead one to believe that the Monarch is about to be sold, not the Majesty.

I think that is the general concensus - Monarch. And the Nav. will be taking over shorter cruises.

I've been on the Majesty a couple of times. Soverign too. We were on the Song of the America the day they announced the Monarch was being built. Long time ago that was.

While I agree the European market has gone soft right now, I think it will pick up again in 2012. (But what do I know.) Either way, I do hope they leave some good ships in the Med. and Baltics. They are bringing the Brilliance back to the U.S. in Sept. 2012 but they are sending the Serenade over. I think there is a lot of re-deployment going on but not necessarily a lot less in Europe.

I think Monarch will be sold; but then Royal just refurbed Majesty; maybe to get it ready to sell. Anyway, I read an article this past Friday in the NY Times, the article was about Europe. It mentioned Royal Caribbean, trying to sell cabins on its 12 night cruise out of Barcelona. It said they can't fill the ship and an inside room is going for $69per night per person. for 12 nights; thats pretty good. It also mentioned Royal Caribbean trying to fill cabins on it's other european cruise out of Rome.

It's just been a bad year. First one thing then another. The price of oil went up unexpectedly, now it's coming down somewhat again.

They got Bin Ladan last week which sent a lot of Americans into a talespin I'm told and cancellations galore were happening because they paniced expecting retaliation.

The U.S. dollar is still not doing well, air prices went up (although if you think it's pricey from the U.S, try Canada.)

We were just on a river cruise. There were Canadians, Americans and Australians with one couple from Russia. The one after ours had a lot of Canadians on it.

There have been years of relatively low air/cruise fares. Now they are climbing. It's a case of get used to it - it's going to continue that way.

Well, it's not the Majesty. I just got the new deployment for 2012 - 2013 for the Majesty but no mention of the Monarch.

Things don't happen until they actually do happen. Or at least are officially announced. Beyond that everything is FUD.

I'll be on Monarch in October. Everything I read about her online seems to indicate she sails pretty full every trip, especially the weekend 3n trips. FL residents love to get away when they can, and that's a trip for it.

Unless something is announced by then, I suppose I will get a feel for it when I am on the ship.

(Google FUD if you have any questions )

I'm going on the release of dates received as a TA therefore I stand by the fact the Monarch will be leaving around November. You will be on it in October, probably one of it's last cruises.

As for the old old thing about Florida residents ruling this - no - that isn't going to happen. Money rules not residents of Florida.

Just saw a Facebook post by the cruise line denouncing any intent to sell either ship; maybe the deal went ary; who knows...

Yes, I saw that too. However where there is smoke there is fire. Maybe letting the cat out of the bag too soon affects the money.

Just a tidbit of info. My good friend is a cruise agent for Royal Caribbean. He does not have anything in his computers saying Majesty or Monarch are being sold. He is still selling cruises on both ships into 2012.

Thre problem with that - RCL has a habit of cancelling cruises for a variety of reasons so the fact they are taking bookings (and our TA site does not have 2013 for the Monarch) really doesn't mean anything.

I still believe one is sold or going to be sold - and it will probably be the Monarch. These ships have been on the chopping block for sometime now. There's usually a reason for these kind of rumours.

I would think that both Majesty and Monarch have been paid off; so any cruise taken on these ships should be total profit for the company.

Oh I know that. I meant money from payment of the ships to put towards paying off their huge debt on Oasis and Allure, among other things.
