Flo-riders and Zip Lines

When you cruise on RCI have you used the Flo-riders, or Zipline (where equipped)? If not, do you like to sit and watch others using them? Or do they simply not matter to you?

When we sailed on the Freedom, we watched the Flowrider for a while. I can just imagine the lines in high season with tons of kids..oy!

I have done the Zip line on the Oasis and on the Allure.

I like to watch the Flo-riders and the lines for those who are participating are not that bad.

Is there a zip line on FOTS?

I'd try that, .... but I'm not in a big rush to try Flo-Rider. DH said he would try it though.

Is there an age minimum?

Also, does anyone know (off-topic?) if there is an age minimum for the rock-climbing wall? My 3 (almost 4) year old is anxious to do the rock climbing wall. He climbs the wall (without harness) at our TKD gym and is really excited to do on the ship. He is really tall, so he looks like he might be 5 or so, .... will he be allowed?

I've done the flow rider several times on Oasis, Allure, Freedom, Liberty and Independence; always a good time. I attempted the zip line on Oasis twice, but got rained out twice - It's only only a 40 foot zip line; if you've done zip lining on an island somewhere - this is pretty tame in comparison.

Both actually, while you are standing in line, you naturally watch the ones before you, it can be quiet entertaining so say the least. It sure isn't as easy as it looks, I still want to a least get on my knees on the board, even that is difficult. I will be doing the zip line on Allure, that could be fun too....

I sailed Allure in Jan. We had 20 in our group. I was the first one to do the zipline. It is a little scary because you are over 100 feet in the air directly over the boardwalk. You can see straight down and see all the people there. The staff puts u in a harness and u actually sit down and gravity does the rest. It is fast and is over in 8 seconds. The last person in our group broke her leg in three places. She hit the ramp with her leg on landing. She had to be taken to ships doctor and had a cast put on. She left the ship in St. Maartan and flew home to Cincinnati. My wife did flowrider. The neat thing is watching the kids. The teenagers had a surf contest; it was amazing to see these kids stand up surfing, spinning around standing up. The water flows at 30mph, so most people just bookie board.

Wow, if that's not a good reason to get trip insurance I don't know what is. I don't usually get trip insurance since I live in Florida and am healthy. But, that sacres me, I am already afraid of heights. I maybe skipping the zip line when I sail next year. Give me the Aqua Duck on Disney any day cause' that was a blast even for claustrophbics like me.

One of the woman in my group broke her leg on flowrider. She had to leave the cruise and fly back home. She had trip insurance; she filed a claim.

So, one woman in your group broke her leg ziplining, and another did the same thing on flowrider???????

Too old for that stuff. However we watch for a couple of minutes. Half the kids seem to be fighting to keep their swim suits on.

As for the zip - it appears to me to be too dangerous. I know I'm a nasty, but I think it will be taken down eventually if people keep breaking bones.

I'm Irish, the luck of the Irish. Don't know if it was bad luck or what; but the gal who broke her leg in my group, says, she's not gonna cruise for awhile. Oh well, I will be on Freedom in Dec with my grandkids; and I will get them to go on the flowrider.

Broken bones from zipping? How does that happen, from the landing?

Probably a combination of hitting the ramp wrong, not listening or executing directions and having bones that are probably a lot more fragile then they once were.

Exactly! If you follow directions it is quite safe. I am an older guy and I have done the zip on both the Oasis and the Allure.

When u do the zipline on Oasis/Allure you are supposed to keep your legs up and then when u get to the ramp u put your legs down and walk on the ramp to stop. My friend did not have her legs up enough, so she hit the ramp with her shins, and that's what caused the break in her leg.
