I just booked Serenade of the Seas for 7/10 and need advice on hotels in San Juan. My plan is to arrive two days before the cruise and would like something in Old San Juan. I know the Sheraton is popular but I'm a light smoker so the Sheraton won't work--it is a non-smoking hotel. Any suggestions?
I think most or almost all hotels these days are non-smoking. They do, however have a lovely roof pool at the Sheraton and I am sure you can go up there and smoke. The location is perfect if you want to stay in Old San Juan...

Thanks for your response. If I'm reading their website correctly they have banned smoking on the property completely. Do you know anything about the Marriott? The pictures look nice but sometimes they aren't current.
Thanks for your help. In checking around I found some info that said all public areas in San Juan are non-smoking and most of the hotels are as well. Oh well, just another good reason to quit. I booked the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino b/c the reviews I've read have all been good.
Oh Ginnie, Sounds just wonderful, enjoy the hotel before the cruise, best way to start it out....I think you'll enjoy the Marriott, have never stayed at a bad one.
We stayed at that Marriott before a cruise 2 years ago and let's just say, I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. We only got a city view so that was not so nice but the beach and pool were wonderful.. Got to see a wedding on the beach also. People in San Juan seem to be so nice... This last trip we stayed at the Intercontinental and liked it also. Water was too cold in the pool and ocean but it was still really nice... Both short trips to the port!! ENJOY!!
