Just found out (4 days before cruise) that RCCL does not offer LIQUOR as part of thier Bon Voyage service. I CANNOT ORDER ANY LIQUOR TO BE WAITING FOR ME IN MY ROOM ONLY WINE OR CHAMPAGNE.
I've done this on Carnival a million times.
Am I missing something here?

Wow you like to drink do you. Advance ordering of liquor was stopped a long time ago - maybe 2 years or more by RCL. You're just going to have to buy your drinks onboard or buy the liquor package that I believe RCL offers.

January 12/13 - Celebrity Reflection
41 cruises - too many to list however cruiselines are in no particular order:
Azamara
Uniworld
RCL
Princess
NCL
HAL
Cunard
Celebrity
and some unknown tub
And yes, I love to drink. But I love to drink on a budget even more. Sorry to vent - this just really got under my skin.
You know, I try to follow the rules, buy my liquor from the cruise line (NOT SMUGGLE IT ON LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE I KNOW) and now I find out that this is not even good enough. Back to Carnival! Never again RCCL....
If anybody has any good tips on smuggling tequila, please let me know!
I recently booked my first RCCL cruise thinking I could preorder rum and have it delivered to my room as well.
Not the end of the world certainly. I've only used Carnival's Bon Voyage Service Department once out of all my years of cruising and that's for my upcoming cruise in July, but we had planned on possibly doing this regularly from here on out since we're cruising more often these days to try and cut down that hefty weekly statement we manage to continue to rack up, although 90 dollars on 2 liters of rum from the Bon Voyage Service Department doesn't seem like much of a savings does it...
I don't know if this is fact or not but I had heard prices for drinks are more reasonable on RCCL than Carnival...? Someone else who has experienced both would know this for certain.
I'm sure you'll have a great cruise regardless. I know it's not the same, but champagne or wine is better than not allowing you to bring anything at all isn't it...?
Bon Voyage!
Beth

Just about the only time I drink is on a cruise so I can't compare a whole lot with land. We are also from Canada where everything seems to cost more.
In saying that, I find the drinks onboard vary from about $7 - $11.50 per drink. I think that is expensive. But I will look at the drink menu and see what's available at the lower end of the scale. Only once or twice have I accidently ordered drinks at the high end.
RCL makes a bomb on their drinks - no doubt of that. But it's still not something to lose your temper about.

It's not like the bar will be closed when you get onboard. Just stop by an open bar and get a drink while you're walking to your room, and just pretend it was there waiting for you.

Florida Girl, since you won't cruise RCCl, I will have to go in your place.
I will be on the Oasis for the second time this coming april.
I do drink my share and the prices are no higher than they are in the bars back home.
My dtink of choice while cruising is a Grasshopper. They make good ones on the RCL ships.

PS I will be a Florida guy in a few months. We are planning to buy a house near Daytona.

Welcome to Florida! We moved down here in 2001 from LI, NY and haven't regretted it a bit, even though we experienced Hurricane Charley in 2001. It's a great place to cruise from and you just have a quick drive to a port.
I just returned from a fabulous cruise on Allure. A Barcardi & Coke was $5.50. A great margarita could be had for $6.50. Find one or two bars that you like and get to know the bartenders. Give them some green every so often. You'll be glad you did, and your drinks will be 'just right'.

HI FG, What Royal Caribbean ship are you going on in 4 days? I still bet, you have a wonderful time with or without liquor as a bon voyage gift, enjoy!
When people ask what the differences are between the two lines this is one of the things I point out. Other then that, you will have a great cruise.

Thanks all! Sailing Monarch July 1 out of Canaveral. Just a short/sweet little trip. No Cougars this time, just me and my current LUH-VA! Thus my reasoning for wanting alchohol in the room....

How correct you are Dave.
Looking after the Bartenders is a must on any cruise...
They really look after you

Ahhh, 2004. The year of Charley Frances and Jean. I remember them well. Okay well, not so much Charley. I slept through most of him. :-p But the day after was quite interesting. Thankfully we were in a newer neighborhood with underground lines. Our feeder line broke, but was back working in about 48 hours. Used the RV generator to power a few things in the interim.

It's not cheap, but you can order champagne and or wine through their "Gifts and Gear" program. I know it's not the hard stuff and you can't mix it with anything, but I like to buy them for folks sailing. It's always been apprecated at least then their is some kind of alchol in your stateoom.
Bon Voyage

Allure'ing to my next cruise in May 2012.
OP already was aware of this

I just remembered that on my last cruise I ordered a grasshopper and gave the bartender a tip. He asked me how the drink was and I said that it great.
A few minutes later he brought me a free one.
