Hi All - I have been on 20+ cruises and have never had trouble in the tropics during hurricane season - what happens usually? Will the cruise be delayed or cancelled?
My friend is on her first cruise with her 3 young kids. I just saw on the weather channel that the Bahamas is going to get hit with Hurricane Irene, which is expected to strengthen. She sailed yesterday on the Monarch and the only port was the Bahamas.
I was wondering how the ship can avoid all that storminess if it departed from Port Canaveral and has no where else to go. I mean, it has to sail some place doesn't it?
it can result in a cruise to "nowhere" or the itinerary could be reversed or changed completely. that is at the discretion of the captain and the cruiseline. RARELY will a cruise be cancelled completely.....perhaps diverted and or delayed, but not cancelled.

They will keep pax out of harms way. Most are changing itineraries this week.
