Default Western Mediterrean Cruise September 17-24

I went on this cruise, my first time with these planners (not travel agents, but they said they were experts at planning because they had been doing it for so long.) I called this cruise the "no frills" mediterrean cruise. The flyer they gave us said we would be departing from Barcelona. I had no idea that we would miss it entirely. I had friends who went on the same cruise a week before and one of my friends is on the October 8th cruise. Here is what planners do when they know what they are doing, you either leave two days earlier and spend the day in Barcelona or you spend a day or two after the cruise, which is what they did. When I question her, she said "you got what you paid for." One statement she made really rings true. I should have researched further and maybe I could have been on the October 8th sailing. I need to vent, because I am still disappointed at not seeing Barcelona. Hopefully I will be going next year, most definitely she will not be the one who plans it. There were so many red flags from the beginning and I let it go. When I found out my friend was going on the same trip, I had paid the balance and we were close to sailing. My advice, make sure of the person who is doing the planning, ask questions even though they may get offended. It is your money and you have a right. Thank you for allowing me to vent.

Hi, and welcome to Cruisemates. Where did you find these planners? Friends or co workers? Many times, due to finances, or, time availability, people don't go in early to pre/post cruise. Was anything mentioned, over and above "the Cruise?"

We urge always, to book, with cruise specialist travel agencys. So sorry it didn't work out as you would have liked, but, next time, knowing what you know now, it will go smoother.

Trip, with her book & tea!

Are you saying you missed the cruise because you arrived the day of and too late in the day? I understand you hadn't cruised before (and I guess still haven't) but there are a lot of open ended questions you would need to answer and consider. Mind you, the first thing that comes to mind - did you have insurance?????? So important. Why didn't you catch up to the ship at the next port of call or did you? None of the ports are huge distances apart in the Med. and either a train or ferry would usually get you there.

You are right about one thing though, you need to check the reputation of the person/company you are booking with. Going with the cheapest can certainly cost a lot more in the long run.
Dec. 13 - Windstar sailing yacht. Wonderful!!

Just completed - Celebrity Reflection, Nov. 22 (learning to sail solo) followed by Independence of the Seas Nov. 30.

44 cruises - too many to list however cruiselines are in no particular order:

and some unknown tub

Yes, I'm a Royal Chump and proud of it.

I think the OP means they missed BARCELONA. Arrived, got off the plane, got on the ship --- no chance to see the city. What I don't understand is why they expected otherwise if they knew they were going to arrive on the day the ship left.

After reading the 1st post a zillion times to make sense of the rant, I concluded with Sistersolo. A cruise leaving and returning from Barcelona is NOT the same as a package that includes a pre or post stay in Barcelona. Not sure the OP understood what she booked and ASSUMED too much!

Common sense will tell you that you can't arrive and leave on a ship the same day. Same goes for return from a cruise and hopping a plane. This time schedule is in print even before sailing. Why didn't the OP question this? Sounds like OP made a mistake by not booking a package, but is trying to blame the planner.
