Default Costa Concordia (I know it's not RCL) but important

The Costa Concordia has run aground in Italy and is listing enough to evacuate all passengers and crew. There has apparently been 2 lives lost.

44 cruises - too many to list however cruiselines are in no particular order:

Azamara
Uniworld
RCL
Princess
NCL
HAL
Cunard
Celebrity
and some unknown tub

Yes, I'm a Royal Chump and proud of it.

Watch carnival's stock price tumble and cruise fares across the various lines fall- would be interested to see how cancelations across the industry get impacted. Anytime a cruise ship has problems it affects the whole industry - this whole thing is shocking / surreal - Royal Caribbean consistently executes muster drill prior to leaving port - shocking to hear Costa would wait until day 2 to execute the lifeboat drill - substandard !

This is going to be very damaging to all cruise companies. I hope they sit up and take notice. Once the press/TV realize it's actually Carnival Corp. you're right, their stock will go down.

I have noticed today there is no mention of Carnival on most reports so I don't think reporters have twigged to that yet.

My heart and prayers go out to the passengers, crew and families of that ship definitly. But, honestly my personal opinon is that I don't see this effecting cruise ship prices or bookings. It's very scary to hear that they hadn't done a mustard drill, when our cruiseships here in the US do them before they leave the cruise terminal day one. But, I guess that just goes to show that no matter how annoying they are, they very important. It's been so long since I have been a cruise newbie that I can't even imagine what the folks that had never sailed before were going through as it went dark onboard and the ship started listing....and I don't want to know.

Many first time cruisers may become weary of sailing given the nature and visualization of this incident. The lines will mostly have a price drop for a short time to fill what may become a cancelation gap. Only time will tell...

I know muster drills are very important but I'm not sure one would have helped the passengers any in this situation. People sitting at dinner said that plates literally flew off the tables and before they knew it the lights were off and the walls became the floor as the ship rolled onto its side.

It's tough to see such a modern ship sink.

Unhappy

The risk have always been there! It is no more dangurous now then a month ago.I feel this just brings it to the fore front. The risk will always be there when you head out to sea! I feel for everyone involed in this terrible accident and hope for the best for everyone. For us this will not change any of our plans for going on a cruise we know the risk and are well aware of them.

It's more likely that you'll be involved in a car accident then you will in ship accident.
