I have heard rumors of special phones that can be used while on board the ship. Any info on this?

Also, to buy a beverage or water package or not to buy a package? Is it cheaper on the ship or before you sail? Are they worth it?

Yes you can rent DECT phones, last time I checked they were $30 per week.
They work anywhere on the ship.
The beverage package is $6.50 per day for adults and $4.50 for children, that includes a souvenir thermal mug.
I don't know what the water package costs, but I remember it being $$$.
Tap water is safe to drink.....

You can save on the soda package by pre-purchase online, but I don't remember the details..

Buy a case of water and bring it onboard. Put it into a cheap duffle bag and put a tag on it. When the water is done, use the bag for dirty clothes.

You can bring water or soda on board. I always put a 2ltr in the suitcase to not spend 2.50 for each can.

$1 for 2ltr at home
$12.50 for 5 cans on ship

Hope the missus doesn't see this. All my snorkling gear will be dumped out to make room for soda bottles.
