Independence...so many negative reviews

Going on IOTS in March. While this site has two reviews of the ship, they are years old. I have seen very recent reiviews elswhere on the net, and many of them have been negative. Has anyone on this board sailed on her recently? We are already booked and apid for so I guess it doesnt make a difference but I would love to hear more positive comments about this ship.

Iots

We are also going in March what have you read ?

banshee72 December 28th, 2012 09:31 PM

We are sailing on MArch 16th. I'm not going to post others sites on here but if you search online, I'm sure you could find it/them.

I cancelled my Allure cruise for March and looking to book IOTS instead.

There are some negative reviews however there are more positive ones. Just read a review from a cruiser that just got off IOTS and loved the cruise. There are compasses posted online also.

I have had excellent cruises on IOTS sisters Freedom and Liberty.....I have no doubt that IOTS will be another excellent cruise.:D

Happy Cruising!!

I've read quite a few recent negative reviews of this ship. I'm also sailing on March 16, dream trip as I snagged an aft cabin with a huge balcony.

If there's recent positive reviews, I sure would love to see them, because I'm concerned.

DW and I just got off of the IOTS on Dec. 16th. She is a beautiful ship and we had a wonderful time. I have not seen (or looked for) any negative reviews on this ship. The crew was nice, the dining was nice and the onboard entertainment was nice. We've done the Freedom twice so this was our first time on the IOTS. I say, take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. Go expecting to see a beautiful ship and to have a wonderful time. Enjoy.

Thanks. I did find some better reviews. We sailed on the Freedom this past March and loved it. Feeling more confident now that my cruise on the Indy will be the same.

They often say that people who have had a bad experience are more apt to write a review. Hope that is the case. We are fairly new to cruising. Went on one 5 night cruise about 6 years ago. It was on the Enchantment of the Seas. We LOVED that cruise so we decided to go on a bit longer (8 night). I'm sure we will have a good time. A little worried about how busy or crowded the ship is. I went to the schooner bar quite a bit on the last cruise...this is where my addiction to mojitos began :-) anyway, there was hardly anybody at the bar when I would stop by. I dont expect that on IOTS but am hoping we wont be standing elbow to elbow either. A few things that I dont remember is (1) room service. I'm sure it was probably available...and I just had no idea. May have to take advantage of this. (2) Breakfast and lunch in the dining room. Once again this was probably available but we either didnt know about it or just didnt take advantage of it. I'm thinkingit might be a good alternative to Windjammer once in a while. MArch 16th isnt coming fast enough.

missourigal December 29th, 2012 06:38 PM

Yes, there's room service. I think my son & I used it once. We usually ate in the Windjammer for breakfast and sometimes lunch, but on the last day we ate in the main dining room for breakfast and it was lovely. Will definitely be doing that more on this trip.

I'm sure you'll have a good time on the Indy if I have a concern it would be if that's the week of spring break. DW and I cruised once during spring break and it only took once. Traveling could be a challenge.

banshee72 December 30th, 2012 11:30 AM

Not sure about spring break...at least not for high schools. I cant think of any around here that have spring break that week. The ones here are all at least 2 weeks later. There are some universities are off this week but the length of the cruise may scare sokme of them off. I would think that most college students would rather go on Carnival. I'm sure there wil be some spring breakers, no doubt, but after going to Disney last year and Myrtle Beach the year before, I dont think they will bother us too much.

Keep in mind that the ship goes to Europe which means a completely different cruise experience and hence different reviews from other RCL ships close to of the same class: Liberty, Freedom..

The only thing it doesn't have is some of the newer productions and the Dreamworks experience. It has not received the "Royal Advantage" upgrades yet.

Went on indy in May, best holiday we ever had

seadog2 January 1st, 2013 04:01 PM

Ok, just thought I'd mention it though. DW and I said the same thing. Traveling was a challenge. Not too many spring breakers on the cruise but getting there was difficult.

After many cruises taken and many reviews read, I find that angry peope write negative reviews and happy people share their pictures with friends and family but don't write about it on the internet.

I have read many negative reviews on all of our cruises and we have enjoyed ALL of our cruises.

There is "some" truths to the negativity such as the food, entertainment, staff service, etc but they are usually individual taste, or individual and outrageous expectations.

For every one good review you will read 10 negatives. You can believe the one good review for better accuracy (in my opinion).

Enjoy your cruise.

Donna January 14th, 2013 07:38 AM

Oh, how true Cuz,
You can have two reviews of the same ship sailing and both being totally opposite each other...People have different tastes and expect certain things while on their cruise..

Having just got home after working a 5 month contract on the Indy, as youth staff, I can honestly say it's a brilliant ship.
As many people have said, the number of complaints frequently outnumber the positive comments, as people are quick to judge, and in many cases there have definitely been 2 sides to the story.

I worked the Christmas/New Year period, which was our busiest time, and yes it did seem busy at times, but guests weren't queueing up endlessly for things, other than the guest relations desk on embarkation day! So don't worry about feeling like a sardine!

Just before I left we had an all crew meeting in which we were told that the Indy came out top in the fleet for overall customer satisfaction for 2012, so hopefully that will ease your worries a bit.

Thanks for contributing, Ercal.
