You can check out all the other innovations on this ship. Quite amazing;

I'll be the wet blanket. I am too claustrophobic to enjoy something like that. Elevators are okay since the ride isn't long, but in an enclosed pod hanging over the side of the ship? No way.

Looks pretty neat to me, although with my fear of heights, not sure I would, but I see it being very popular...

It doesn't excite me however if I were on the ship I would try it just because. Looking at the rest of the ship I'm not to sure I like the "amusement park" feel of it. I kind of feel there's just too much going on but that's why there's different ships out there...something for everyone.

Robin,

I hadn't thought about it but you bring up a good point about the amusement park. To be honest, my least favorite 'neighborhood' on the Oasis class is the Boardwalk, with the exception of the AquaTheater but then it had to be there just by design. Now Royal is going further down the carnival midway <ahem> with the circus school, bumper cars, expanded aerial acts, and what is essentially a single-car from a ferris wheel with the North Star. Their research no doubt shows this stuff has an appeal, so we'll see.

Every ride at an amusement park eventually breaks down. What happen if you out in the middle of the ocean 300' over the water and that sucker breaks down???? Not me! I'll be watching....

It's definitely taking on a new style of cruising but what I see is it being geared for people with kids. I think it will do good as long as the prices are affordable for families ...the more bells and whistles I would think the higher the price. I can see longtime cruisers going on it to see what its all about but don't know if it's something they would go back too. I won't be running to book it anytime soon that I know.

Depends on you location too. I live in NJ so if it offer more than one travel route I would be inclined to go again. NO worries about airfare or shuttles. Just get dropped off and go. That figures big time in to the total cost of a vacation too. Thats why I'm hoping for longer trips like 10-12 days.

I do like that there are so many choices on types of ship, something for everyone. I just hope this doesn't become the new normal when new ships come out.

I would like to know if it will come down near the surface of the ocean. This would be like
surfboarding. Wow what an experience skimming the waves and flying with the fish.

If the images are correct the boom will not go much below 180 degrees (straight line).

Yes, perhaps they should re-name it Amusement Park of the Seas...UGH!!! Not for me. The kids and families can have it. I'll stay with my beautiful (and peaceful) Radiance class, thank you.

I have to admit that I also thought "amusement park" when I saw the initial reveal; but the more I think about it the more I think this will bew a really fun ship.

I did not see any mention of a main stage - so I don't know if it will have one. This could be the first cruise ship ever NOT to have a main theater, and that is actually a very good decision design-wise. Big rooms that remain dark most hours of the day are a bad idea for cruise ships.

First of all - everything is free. I may not "love" bumper cars, but I associate them with little red tickets at a dusty state fair. But free, on a clean cruise ship with friendly people (not some guy in ducktail haircut who decides to pound the crap out of me - like when I was a kid) I would find them to be much more fun.

The "Eye," - I have taken the Eye in London and it is interesting. I just really don't see what there is to "see" at sea. But it will go very slowly, and those pods are much bigger than any Ferris wheel seat, like a small bedroom.

As I look at the layout of the ship, It looks like the Royal Theater will cover the front of the ship on decks 3, 4, and 5. Looks like a pretty good size theater.

Default Inline skating rink instead of ice skating rink maybe?

I guess from what I can see there will not be an iceskating rink. Maybe they will have inline skate shows instead of the ice shows. Sort of reminds me of the days of the roller skating rinks in town.

There is no ice rink or royal promenade. Some things had go in order to accommodate the new venues according to CEO Adam Goldstein. However the ship will have something similar to the promenade which they'll reveal at some point down the road as we wait 18 months to actually see the ship.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that at some point RCI starts refurbishing the ships with ice rinks and removing them, making it into a different venue - perhaps turning them into the SeaPlex with bumper cars and so forth. The rinks suffer from the same problem as the main theaters - they are closed most of the time and you have large spaces sitting there empty, or just being used for rehearsals and the occasional ice skating lessons/open skating. Plus I personally feel the ice skating is passé.

As they did with the Oasis class, the suits at RCI will see which new Quantum venues are a hit and look at adding them to older ships as they did with the Royal Advantage enhancements.

looking forward to more of what Quantum will offer as it's revealed.
Maybe it's time for a new class of ships without ice rinks etc. what Oasis, Freedom and Voyager class offers.

Looking forward to the Bumper Cars....I do sometimes crash into nearby bumper cars when the driver is not looking... Just a heads up...

I wonder if Quantum will have Dreamworks onboard I would love to see my beloved Po on Quantum....

Funny....

Ice skating is "passe" but bumper cars are "novel?"

At least the ice offers great skating shows which I am sure rate very highly with passengers. And as we saw on the Rock cruises, the ice venues are also make a really good modular entertainment venue.

What is interesting is that space was always called "Studio B" and it inferred it was a TV-studio, like the new "Princess Live" (on Royal Princess) - but Royal never used the room that way.

It would make a great "Princess Live" style venue - and I assumed it was already set up as a TV studio.

I like that different ships have different attractions. I think it would get boring if every ship had the same things. I don't have to worry about getting bored I have not been on that many cruises. BUT that's changing cuz the youngest goes to college next year!!!
We already left kids home for our Oasis trip.

The thing with bumper cars is they don't require a lot of infrastructure and a professional staff of skaters such as the ice rink does. It appears they will use the existing Seaplex floor with nothing special involved. I suspect the cars are battery powered with computer controlled governors to prevent people from going crazy in them. If the bumper cars don't pan out they can just remove the cars. It was a comparatively inexpensive thing to put on the Quantum.

Wasn't the original Studio B idea to have passengers be able to make their own videos and song recordings outside the ice rink? I forget now since it is really just a sports bar most of the time on the ships such as the Freedom class.
