Who's going on Quantum???

We just booked a balcony on the first Eastern Caribbean cruise on December 1st!!!

We opted for the 11 day cause the 12 day was just a little too much. Plus it will be the first time Quantum sails to those ports. Maybe if prices come down we will do a 12 day. But by then there will be Anthem and the new Oasis class ship. And we still want to sail on Allure and take a cruise "from" Puerto Rico.

I need a second job to support my cruising obsession!!! :p

seadog2 May 28th, 2013 07:15 PM

We booked the same cruise. Dec. 1, 2014 out of NJ. Tried to book the Jr. Suite but they were all gone so we opted for the Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony. We really want the Jr. Suite so we had RCI place us on their wait list in case one becomes available. I believe the Dec,1st sailing is the Southern Caribbean. The 11 dayer will be nice. Hopefully RCI continues with their December Diamond Celebration if so this means triple points.

Beachbum and Seadog enjoy your cruise. The Quantum sounds like a great ship to cruise on. :D
I would love to try her but since I moved to Florida my next cruise will probably be on the Allure.

Manuel, thanks. You can't go wrong on the Allure I see you've sailed her once already. She is a great ship. Enjoy.

Manuel May 28th, 2013 09:19 PM

We did love our cruise on the Allure.

When we lived in Ct. we did fly to almost all of our cruises. Now it's quite easy to drive to the ports.

I have never booked a vacation this far in advance! I can't wait! I wish this was the inaugural trip but I guess the second trip is pretty special too. It will be the inaugural to those ports. Had no desire to go to Bahamas on a 7 day. And for that much $$$?!

seadog2 May 29th, 2013 11:38 AM

Yes, the one with VTG is the one I am booked on. I too had no desire to go back to the Bahamas. It is a little pricey. We have been to all of these ports before so it will be nice to explore the Quantum.

felix_the_cat May 29th, 2013 01:28 PM

I booked 2 client cabins and ourselves on the inaugural yesterday. (not positive we will be going - it will depend on DH's health at the time).

I see the prices shot up today.

thecruisequeen May 29th, 2013 04:46 PM

Count me in on Quantum!!:twisted: No idea as of when in Dec. 14 or Jan. 15 yet. I'm a late booker.....to soon for me to book.

I have never booked ANY vacation this far in advance but I wanted to be sure I got a cabin! I was so disappointed that the inaugural cruise was the Bahamas cruise. I can't believe that there are that many people who want to sail to the Bahamas to support all the cruises on different lines out of NYC/NJ! Everyone I know who cruises passes on the Bahamas cruises. I would not be surprised to see Quantum do fewer of them in the future. You know 11/23/14 will sell out! Or I'll try and snipe a cheap cabin just prior!!!:D

I would book the Bahamas route just because I won't be getting off Quantum much anyway....more of a cruise for the ship not ports. However Dec. out of Bayonne and only doing florida/Bahamas will be a chilly cruise or even cold...:(

You never know! We were in Disney in last year in mid December and the temps were mid 80's and high humidity. The water should still be warm so that will help the air temps.

Comet Cruiser June 1st, 2013 10:59 AM

Hi everyone,

We booked the Quantum for March 1, 2015...over 600 days to go!!

So far there are 3 couples going....a shorter drive to New Jersey, compared to our last cruise driving to Fort Lauderdale. But must say, the drive to Florida was wonderful!! Loved the drive, the people we met along the way the whole trip was great!

We wanted the 12 night itinerary because that one includes Martinique and Barbados, 2 places we haven't been yet.

Looks like an amazing ship again......our last cruise on the Oasis was UNREAL!! LOVED IT....now we might just have to book the Allure in 2014 to hold us over til the Quantum :)
Guess I better make a new countdown clock :)

Hello fellow cruisers
As a general rule I never book a cruise on a new ship before the reviews come out from several passengers, also there are always kinks to be iron out on a new ship and a few voyages will solve most of the problems that goes along with the first voyage
Diamond member.... Happy cruising

seadog2 July 23rd, 2013 07:46 PM

There will be two sailings before we board in Dec. 2014. Two may not be enough to iron out all of the kinks but I believe it will be fine. We were on the 5th sailing of the Oasis OTS and everything was fine. Expecting the same for the Quantum.

CRUISEFAN0001 July 28th, 2013 11:42 AM

We really followed the announcement about Quantum and subsequent news for months.

It sounds like an interesting ship with neat features.

But then once we learned Bayonne, NJ would be the home port - that was a showstopper.

The idea of wasting about 4 days of cruising time just to get to and from the Caribbean and also leaving in peak season (Feb-Apr) to a port located in snow country made no sense.

Hopefully RCI wises up with Anthem and puts it someplace further south.

thecruisequeen July 28th, 2013 11:09 PM

Was on the 2nd sailing on Oasis and everything was Outstanding.....

Royal are pros on getting big mega ships out there right from day 1 with no flaws....

The NJ/NY area will welcome Quantum with open arms....I'm sure there will be many local cruisers that will cruise on Quantum again and again....I'm one of them 8-):p

If I was still living in the Northeast, I would be one of those repeat cruisers on the Quantum as well.

Donna July 29th, 2013 08:15 PM

I too like to read a review or two before booking, and wait until the prices go down a bit....Although, this ship sounds amazing.

thecruisequeen July 29th, 2013 09:24 PM

Queen Quantum will be a great ship just like her cousins Outstanding Oasis and Amazing Allure!! (as well as the other cousins in the fleet) 8-):D:mrgreen::twisted:

Donna July 30th, 2013 06:40 AM

I am sure these ships will be great, like the Oasis class. Being longer cruises, may not fill up the ships as fast, time will tell.

Yes they will be great ships :!::!::!: :D

For people living in the Northeast a longer cruise makes sense. When I live up there I used to fly and do a one or two pre-cruise stays in a motel.
So if you don't have to fly and pre-cruise you can certainly do a longer cruise.

I made a point of booking the first Oasis cruise because my 2-day preview (as a writer) was not enough. It was more than worth it.

Good for you - something to really look forward to.... I will definitely be on her early on in the game myself.

Quantum, here we come!

Our first cruise ever will also be the first ever maiden voyage of the Quantum. We'll be boarding November 2, 2014 in Southampton to make the cruise over to New Jersey. Such a long time to wait! We figure it to be a great match up. First sailing, first cruise, and we can all get into the swing of things together. One report I heard was that they were planning to have this particular cruise only half full so the staff can get up to speed gradually and still have time to take care of whatever snafu's come up. Maybe it will mean all the loungers by the pool won't be full when we wanna relax.

Donna September 2nd, 2013 08:42 AM

Congrats PB and welcome to Cruisemates....What a first cruise for you...How many days is this one?

Makes no sense? First it counters NCL Breakaway. Second, It may be a deal breaker for you but for the millions of people living in the NE it's long over due!!! The time that you say we lose, we are used to spending in airports and hotels before our cruises. Now we can relax onboard! The port is now getting a huge renovation and I can't wait to sail in December 2014!!!

PS - Anthem will be in Europe....

I have driven between Connecticut and Florida five times. It's not a bad drive at all.
But of course for people living close to the NJ / NY area the Quantum will be very popular.

At least they have varied the itinerary a bit, but I won't be sailing on her.
Allure was too big for me, I felt like I walked non stop for a week.LOL
I'd like to take a tour though....
