Default Excellent EXPLORER of the Seas 6/8/13

Yet another awesome cruise on Royal Caribbean this one on Explorer. This was a 5 night Bermuda cruise and my first Solo cruise.

There is some traffic at the pier of bayonne so it took awhile to get to the parking lot. The check in part was fast but then you have to wait for the shuttle to drive you to the ship. Waited about 25 minutes for the shuttle. I hope they find a better way for the traffic and shuttle once Quantum gets here. Allure and Oasis have the best embark and debark.....

Cabin was on the 8th floor (8535) FYI this cabin was by the elevators and next door was a door that said crew only. The cabin was noisy starting around 3am. I asked my cabin Stewart about that door/area and she said it's a room service area getting ready for the morning breakfast. One day the door was open and there were carts and food trays in there. Mental note to self.....check what is next door to the cabin I want to book and not just what is above and below.

Explorer is an older lady but very clean and does not show her age. The only thing I could find was there were little chips in the bathroom tiles.

Hi Explorer!!

Bye Bye New York

Off goes Explorer and under the bridge we go.....

Let the sailaway party begin....time to Dance They do the Flash mob dance at sailaway that is done on Allure so I already knew the moves. But for those that have not done flash mob on Royal will not know what the moves are. Fun sailaway party!!

Sailaway Parade...

So excited I thought this was my beloved Po...then realized Explorer does not have Dreamworks onboard. this Panda was a "Po want to be"

The first drink of the night and cruise.....

To be continued......off to work.

Thanks Aero and TM!!

First day at sea was rocky once we got to Bermuda the weather was just beautiful on the way back again it was rocky.

Love Bermuda......very easy to take the ferry and go to Hamilton.

St. Theresa's Church...Hamilton....15 minute walk from the ferry drop off..

Horseshoe Bay Beach

Time to shop in Hamilton...

Met alot of great cruisers from teenagers to seniors!!!
Food was good and service was awesome. Once again I'm spoiled!
Shows were very good was not expecting it since I just got off Allure recently. There was a Comedy show, a welcome aboard show which featured the Royal singers and dancers (who are awesome) and the comedian, Invitation to Dance was very good with the Royal dancers and singers and it was choreographed by Louie VanArmstrong from Dancing with the Stars. There was an acapella group that was excellent and also another show with the singers and dancers. The ice shows were not in the evening but rather at 2pm or 4pm depending on what muster station you had. The last night was the farewell show.

The cruise director was Leigh Xuereb and his side kick Frank the tank were soooo funny and awesome......My favorite all time Royal CD was richard Spacey however Leigh now takes my #1 CD spot Spacey is now #2.

There were Dance classes....Cha Cha, 70's dance class, Lady Gaga dance class and 2 Zumba dance classes.

The music around the ship was very good also....the pool band was great, the latin band was excellent as was the party band and DJ.

Deck party was alot of fun and the usual 70's night on the promenade. There was an older women I'll guess in her 70's dirty dancing with one of the village people...it was a riot....everyone was having fun..smiling, singing, dancing and laughing...... The nightclub had a Silent party one night where cruisers wear headphones and are able to switch channels and hear different music spun by two different DJ's.

the ship Photographers took some nice photos and they had packages for buying pictures so ended up with a package of 10 instead of buying 4 or 5.

Pool band

Party band

Andre doing gangnam Style....Jamaican style...:

70's Night

Cruise Director Leigh and Activities Manager Frank

Five 16 year old Justin Bieber lovers....I kinda like some of his music too. ) They are too cute!! they wanted to take a picture with me....sure why not! I called them my five daughters for the rest of the cruise..

My waiter Anthony from India and Assistant waiter Mirko from Montenegro....They were the best!!! They work very well together as a team and funny too!!!

Two of my Favorite Royal ballroom dancers they are awesome! He is from Serbia and she is from Hungry....This was right after the Cha Cha dance class.

The Diamond lounge on this ship is set up differently then other ships... Wine and Champagne are free of charge all other drinks are 25% off....and no finger foods just peanuts... I thought maybe this is what the they do with the cruises under 7 nights however after this sailing was the 9 nights and I ask Fe in the lounge and she said the 9 night diamond lounge is run the same as the 5 night

My Diamond lounge glass of wine...

The Washy-Washy girl at the windjammer.... She has the best job....Stand in front of windjammer and greet cruisers by saying..."washy washy time"

Formal night show

my new BFF...the lady in red at the casino entrance....

Our neighbor in Bermuda...NCL dawn

Viking Crown Bar

This is one of the ladies bathrooms....what a view!!

Casino is closed while docked in Bermuda....

Fe in the Diamond Lounge

View from the Diamond lounge....

Lobster night

The Promenade is dead....I'm I the only one that wakes up at 6am?

I sure hope that Diamond lounge policy is not something new and will be fleet wide. I like going to the lounge and having a couple of gin and tonics before dinner.

Glad to hear that the Diamond lounge on the Allure was not changed, I will be sailing on her September 22nd. I will be on the Freedom September 1st, so I will see if it is being done fleet wide. I hope not, that would be a very foolish way to cut corners. Everyone I know who is a Diamond level and above really enjoy going to the lounges before dinner to socialize and have a drink or two. I would hate to go back to sailing Celebrity exclusively, Including RC opens up a lot more ships and itineraries.

This would make you stop cruising on RC? I would hope there's more to cruising this line other than the diamond club benefits if not its certainly not saying much about RC.
I'm not being snarky I'm just surprised .

The Diamond lounge on the Freedom and Oasis class ships does spoil you.

Of course we don't cruise on Royal just for the lounge. At my age and the cruises I have taken, I love all there is to enjoy on the Royal ships.
CQ, can explain it even better than I can, but I can tell you that I am extremely satisfied with all my cruises on Royal.

Loyalty programs are designed as both rewards and enticements. Were RC to substantially change the Diamond benefits the Elite level benefits on Celebrity would make it difficult to not choose Celebrity on occasion. Free laundry and dry cleaning, specialty coffees, broader selection of finger foods, etc. all enter into the equation. I will never stop cruising RC due to convenience and choices available here in Florida, I would just go back to sailing on Celebrity more often. We all have our personal preferences, that's why there are so many different cruise companies to choose from.

I wonder if only the Oasis class and Freedom class have the "full" Diamond lounge and all other classes have the modified one And if not how do they decide which ships get the modified version I should have gotten more info on it while I was onboard....I'm sure some crew member would know why Explorer has the modified version...

I like the Diamond lounge for a pre dinner Cosmo and a piece of cheese and whatever else they are serving that day. On Explorer it was a glass of wine only...passed on the peanuts...

I do like Wine too....so not really a big big deal to have Wine instead of my Cosmo.

Yes Diamond Lounge does spoil.... It's a nice touch but I don't cruise because of a lounge. I to am extremely satisfied with each Royal cruise I take.

I so miss Bermuda!!! and the wonderful people of Bermuda!!

I so miss Bermuda!!! and the wonderful people of Bermuda!!

I know you love everything about RC and you are a big reason I'm going to give it another try, it's obvious you enjoy the line on all levels.
I'm looking forward to booking Allure even though its a long way off.

I don't cruise Royal because of the Diamond benefits but they are a nice frosting on an excellent cake.

I like Celebrity as well and some other cruiselines I would not care to sail on.

I hope you enjoy your cruise on Royal.....I may love my Royal cruises but that does not mean it's for everyone and everyone will love it.

Thanks for the posts! It's Monday and I needed a lift! We were suppose to sail on Explorer in March but we switched to Quantum in December. Then I booked Celebrity out of Port Everglades for a Valentines day trip.

It would be fun to cruise with a bunch of people. It's always just us and sometimes the kids. Things never work out for out friends to join us.
