Default Allure Sticker Shock!

I'm really trying to do my homework for what I want when I book Allure for 2015 but dang it's expensive! 2,000 per person yikes!!!! I don't see how we can do three in a cat D1 so we would have to do a JR suite, six grand

The other thing is I'm not a fan of either itinerary but out of the two I would have to choose eastern . I do know its more about the ship then the ports.

I'm thinking Jewel Of The Seas Southern looks pretty nice for much less in a JR suite but I really want to see what all the fuss is about with Allure.

Choose a less expensive room. We sailed in May when rates were better than mid summer when we usually cruise. I booked the cheapest inside, for 3 of us, and got upgraded at the pier, to a midships balcony . Even so we spent very little time in the room and hardly any on the balcony, it is such a huge ship and there's so much to see you just don't get the time... It's easy to find your way around because of the digital signage. I felt like I was walking all week long though. It was great to see it, but our next ship will be Jewel in the S Carib..

Rather than booking so far ahead, can you do a last minute booking on the Promowave. Look at these prices - http://www.creative.rccl.com/Sales/R...ales_event.pdf
it pays to wait sometimes.

Unfortunately cabin type is non negotiable , it has to be a suite for three people or it won't be happening, just one thing I won't budge on. I did look at maybe bringing on a fourth person and doing 2 ocean balcony cabins but your still looking at $1,600 per person , not as bad.

When are you doing Jewel? I love the ports and the ship looks pretty nice and the price is good so I'm interested in looking more into it.
My next cruise will be on a Royal ship just not sure what ship.

Try booking later in the year. DW and I usually book during hurricane season prices are a bit cheeper. Try booking Sept. thru Dec. The Jewel seems to be a very popular ship. We are sailing her out of San Juan in December.

Let me know what you think of Jewel and the ports. I did look at Dec and it is cheaper, we'll figure something out I'm sure.

Ok Will do. We love the Radiance class ships. We have sailed on the Radiance OTS once the Serenade OTS twice and this will be our first cruise on the Jewel. Looking forward to it.

Yes Allure and Oasis do price out on the higher side. These ships do very well and there is no need to lower the rates. The cheapest inside I ever seen for the twin beauties is $749. pp. If you can get $899 or less on the twins that is a good deal.

You will find better rates on the other ships in the fleet especially if you are flexible with dates. Right after labor day until February (excluding Holidays) some excellent rates can be found. March and April is the spring break season which brings rates higher....May also there are some good rates out there. May is after spring break and before many schools let out for the summer.

Brilliance does a 5 nighter with really good rates right after the new year. Freedom also there are good rates to be found. Also Indy does a 8 night or 6 night with great itineraries.

If Allure is out of your range I would stick to a Freedom, Voyager or Radiance class ship. Good Luck!!

Just have to watch for 'last minute' offers.

Thanks, I would never attempted spring break...the less kids the better.

I'm thinking we will do the two balcony cabins and just bring on a fourth friend so two to a room. It's not that we can't afford a suite but more like we don't know if we want to if that makes sense.

We have been cruising early Dec and the price is a little cheaper so maybe that's what we'll stick with.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Thanks for checking.

Can't really do last minute and we're not looking to go until late 2014 or early 2015 .

It depends on when you book. The Sept 28 (Oasis) and Sept 29 (Allure) cruises are priced very low. I got an ocean view balcony for less than $1,500 total (meaning not per person - per cabin).

That's real nice. We can't do fall sailing unfortunately and summer is out also. We will be paying the price since we're not very flexible .

One reason why the Allure and the Oasis are costing more is because RCCL raised the NCF's (non-commissionable fees, also referred to as port fees).

Some people may not know this, but the price you see advertised is actually the total of two fares; the cruise fare and the NCF's. The NCF's are a total of the port fees they cruise line is charged based on the number of people on the ship. In other words, it's a 'per person' fee. Cruise lines will not release how they come up with these fees and they always seem to change without any reason as a way for the cruise line to collect more money from the passengers without increasing the cruise fare, which would increase their commission payment to agents.

As I mentioned, this is a 'per person' fee. Yet when traveling single, some cruise lines will double the cruise fare and double the port fees, which is not appropriate. Some cruise lines will charge double the cruise fare and single the port fees, which is appropriate. Strange thing is, NCL will charge single the port fees if traveling in a single cabin, but double the port fees if a single is traveling in a double cabin!

I could go into it further, but I think you get the picture. But the reason I point this out is because RCCL has chosen to raise the NCF's on the Oasis and the Allure but not on their other ships. The price of the NCF's went from $159 to $175 on all 7-night Caribbean cruises for all their ships, but now they have raised the NCF's only on the Allure and the Oasis to $275, thus causing a $50 per person increase a few weeks ago.

The thing is that port fees have not gone up, so they're basically charging an extra $50 per person just as way to increase revenue.

And while prices on these ships are higher simply because of supply and demand, it helps explain one reason why the prices for the Oasis & Allure are higher now than they were.
