Default Drink Package Question

Does anybody know if when you order a drink and you have the drink package do they make you wait a certain amount of time before you can order another? Somewhere I heard its 15 minutes so it would keep people from giving away drinks to others. Also wonder if the staff keep an eye on you to see if you hand the drink over to somebody else. Thanks.

I know on Carnival they have a 15/day limit on drinks. It does stipulate that the drink card will be suspended if you are purchasing drinks for non drink card passengers. There is also a "one at a time" rule.

In regard to the interval between drinks, I am not sure.

Take care,
Mike

My understanding is the micro-chipped soda cups that work with the special Coke machines on Royal Caribbean ships have a 15 minute timer on refills at those machines.

Royal has no daily limit at this time as to the number of drinks you can order at bars. They are tight in enforcing the drink packages and they do scan your card for each purchase for inventory tracking and say that is all they are doing, but I have no doubt the bar computer can also pull up details about your drink orders if the bar staff is suspicious. So for instance if you ordered one at the casino bar and gave it to a friend, then rushed over to another bar and got one for yourself, they'd know it.

Strictly speaking, misuse of a drink package is a violation of the Guest Conduct Policy. They'd probably do the same as Carnival and cut off the package with no refund.

In short, the answer is no. Their system is not sophisticated enough to determine if you obtained a beer in Bar A at 1:04PM then walked 15 feet and obtained a second beer in Bar B at 1:06PM that it would flag. Honestly, it does boil down to observation. The crew has been trained to identify people who are clearly taking advantage and attempting to drink two people off one package. So, if your super duper obvious; then they will stop you and basically rip up the package option.

At the end of the day, it boils down to whether you're ethical and seeking to steal free drinks for a second person. As pointed by Dave, this would be a violation of the guest conduct policy and I question if a free few beers for your friend is worth the hassle of the line contemplating evicting you from the ship.

Everyone in your cabin has to be on the same package anyway, so it's only the fact of buying drinks for friends who didn't sign up for the free drinks package. Staff are very good at spotting it when you order and advise you don't or just bill you for the second drink to your account. So not worth it.
Either your friend is worth a couple of quid (/$) for a drink or they should buy the package and enjoy like you. You can get the package mid cruise to make it cheaper if that helps.

Actually, they have since gotten rid of that policy. I just found this out the other day actually. I still don't think I could drink that much!!! http://www.royalcaribbean.com/custom...age&faqId=5805

Thanks for that update, I also find drinking that much would spoil my cruise experience, So I go for the soft drink package and then get the odd Rum to mix in my package Coke. Found out the new Soft Drink Package where it includes premium Coffee's and Tea's, frozen drinks, non alcoholic cocktails, bottles of water and fresh orange juice. This package suits the wife and I much better as it gives us everything we would need.
