Let's Talk JEWEL.....

Which Cruisemates have cruised on Jewel?? How was your cruise? Likes/Dislikes??? Service??? Entertainment???

Thinking about Jewel because of the great Southern Caribbean Itineraries she offers and very good rates?

My favorites are Oasis and Freedom class not sure if I would enjoy a much smaller ship. :-?

Thanks All!!

Donna May 17th, 2014 06:52 AM

These ships are absolutely beautiful, but yes, much smaller than you are used to. They don't have all the bells and whistles that the larger Allure class has, but you can still have a wonderful cruise and visit all those Southern ports...

Mike M May 17th, 2014 08:50 AM

I've sailed Jewel, Radiance and Serenade of the Seas. These are, in my opinion, the most beautiful ships at sea.

They are also my first choice when sailing Royal Caribbean.

The downside may be that they do not offer the "stuff" that Voyager, Freedom and Oasis class ships do. No ice rink, Royal Promenade, Flow Rider...etc. They do have the standard Royal Caribbean specialty restaurants and some decent discos and bars.

To me they are elegant ships with a great use of glass that always gives you the feeling that you are at sea. I'm not a big fan of the larger Royal Caribbean ships because of the "mall" like feel they give me and that most of the time you have no idea you are on a ship.

Take care,
Mike

Thanks Donna and Mike!! The Barbados/Antigua route has only one sea day and the Aruba route has 2 sea days so alot of the week is spent off the ship. I know the Radiance class has alot of fans.

My 1st choice is Allure in August but I'm not willing to pay the rate they want.:x

For $100. more I can do a B2B on Jewel versus one week on Allure.

I don't see why Allure's rates are so high when there are a ton of cabins still available and going into final payment soon.

If the Allure does not pan out and rates don't drop then I'm feeling good about Jewel! Plus I have not yet been to Aruba!!:twisted:

Thanks!!

While I have not sailed this ship, I know many who have... when they had her repositioning cruises from Boston, there were long wait lists..Everybody I know who has sailed her, loved her....This class ship is a fave of many.

One thing to consider..when we sailed from SJ several years back. and the ship was not sold out, it was sold to locals, at big discounts..In doing so, there were so many on the cruise we couldn't interact with, due to not speaking English. I would have loved to chat with them about an island I so enjoy.

seadog2 May 18th, 2014 08:17 PM

DW and I have sailed on the Jewel, the Serenade and the Radiance. All three are beautiful ships. The Jewel is really nice. We had a Grand Suite. This class ship is not as big as the Freedom class and there is no Royal Promenade but this class is awesome. What DW and I did was we did a B2B, one week on the Jewel and then one week on the Adventure. Since both were leaving from San Juan with one day off in between the two cruises it just made sense for us. Both Itineraries were port intensive with only two sea days between the two. CQ, it's just one more thing to consider. The Jewel is very nice.

Man, I want to work where you do.
You seem to get a TON of time offroflroflroflrofl

TimmyK May 20th, 2014 11:56 AM

If it sails out of San Juan, it will be an immersion cruise. Royal Caribbean started this about 5 years ago. They put a ship in certain areas and try to sell to locals. The entire ship will revolve around what ever country or language is prevalent. Not to say it won't be a great cruise. Aruba is awesome, as is Barbados. I go to Barbados for work and always love the area.

thecruisequeen May 20th, 2014 03:02 PM

Yes I have heard when there are cabins left they sell for a really good rate to the locals.

I would think there would be many Spanish cruisers onboard which is fine with me. Spanish Cruisers love and dance Salsa very well. Spanish Cruisers = a fun and packed Boleros each night! :-P8-):p

Timmy you are lucky to get to go to Barbados for Work!!

Seadog that worked out perfect for you B2B with Jewel and Adventure. I like the idea of getting off a ship and trying another one.... different shows/entertainment.

Ship2Shore I have the whole summer off!:twisted::twisted:

Trip May 20th, 2014 03:05 PM

Darn, if only I was a dancer:):)

You certainly deserve it. Take some time to watch the World Cup.

TM

thecruisequeen May 24th, 2014 08:02 PM

It's almost that time again....World Cup! Let's go CROATIA:mrgreen::-P

First I want my boys NY RANGERS to win the Stanley Cup:rolleyes::cool:

Back to JEWEL....I have read a few picture reviews and a recent cruiser was nice enough to email me her compasses that she had. The more I read the more I like Jewel. Then there is also Youtube videos......I found this fun Jewel Video taking place in the Centrum looks like alot of fun......I'll have to bring out my inner LATINA on Jewel! 8-):-P:p

Rangers? I'm just glad Boston's out.
Go any other team!
(But I would like to see a somewhat unlikely LA-Montreal final)

Wow TM you are spreading the love among 4 teams!!LOL Croatia's 1st game is against Brazil I'm not feeling good about that so I better have a team 2 and 3.....Italy and USA.:p:twisted:

And let me add something about Jewel here so this thread is not completely high jacked!! rofl

The price drops have started on Jewel....End of June dropped as did the begining of July.

I'm still holding off on booking Jewel because I want to see if Allure has any price drops.

It has to do with my heritage. :D My mom was born in Brazil, I was born in Portugal and I chose to become an American Citizen and now I have an Italian wife so I cheer on all those teams.

I have to agree that the prices on the Jewel are quite good. On the other hand I am not so sure that I want to give up the Freedom or the Oasis class ships.

I haven't tried it yet, but I will

That is good TM...Those teams covers everyone! :-P

You maybe right TM! I've read great reviews on Jewel, saw great videos on Jewel, read great compasses on Jewel however I'm hesitating on booking....maybe going below a voyager class ship is not for me. :-? Now if Allure was at the right price there would be no hesitating and I would book in a heart beat. 8-):p

Oh well I'll give it some more thought.

Manuel June 1st, 2014 10:50 PM

I love the Freedom and Oasis class ships very much. I eventually might try some of the smaller Royal ships but I am not quite ready to do so yet.

In Feb. 2015 I could a voyager class ship if the price was right. Since it will be between two major trips.

Voyager class ships are great too a smaller version of Freedom class.

On top of already having great rates on Jewel.....a Resident rate was just added to make it an even better deal. :-P

And Allure and Oasis both dropped rates as well. So now there are a few summer sailings to choose from between Jewel, Allure and Oasis.

I think it will come down to where to (San Juan/Fort Lauderdale) and which day (Saturday/Sunday) will be the best airfare......I will let Jetblue decide for me which ship I will book....:-o:p:p:p:cool:LOL

San Juan and Fort Lauderdale both have an Embassy Suites so I'm good with the precruise hotel......I LOVE Embassy Suites!

Manuel June 4th, 2014 05:23 PM

The drama continues............

Which ship will CQ book ??????

Yes the Drama does continue!!! :p:-P:twisted: I found rates for NCL Getaway half the price of Allure and Oasis....:-o:shock::) Time to read some reviews and watch some youtube videos!!LOL:twisted::D

Manuel June 5th, 2014 04:43 PM

I would not advise you to go there.

For someone who is almost Diamond Plus on Royal, I would say this. NCL may be cheaper but then they must know what their cruise is worth.

Besides, I still remember you Wall Mart cruise. LOL
