Default Reservations = Dynamic Disappointment

Quantum OTS 12/1 - I have been very busy lately and was able to make the time to sit down and try and figure out my dining times and options. That has proved to be costly. Nights with entertainment the only dining times available are in direct conflict. Several options are totally booked for the entire cruise. Many nights 9:00 - 9:30 are the earliest reservations. On sea days who wants to eat that late? Especially when the weather is colder on the northern portions.

I certainly hope they leave some slots open for people to book when they get onboard...Sure hope you can get a time that works out for you...I would be very disappointed if I couldn't get a decent time?? Keep us posted if more open up.

If it's anything like NCL's prebooking process, there is a percentage of reservations left open for booking onboard. You will more then likely, as so any did on the Epic change times and venues, & get what you want.

So often when cruisers finally do get onboard, things change...people meet new people and switch times and venues, etc, etc...

I read somewhere about them holding tables for groups. I guess if there's no groups that book a venue than those tables/seats will open. I hope so because the idea that some of the MDR/Comp dining options are totally booked is disappointing. And I f I don't get the chance to try them I will be pissed off big time!

I was able to get all the dinner and show times I preferred for the 1/3/15 cruise. In my case all the dinners are in the sweet spot of 7pm to 7:30pm, with the shows after dinner. These are for two people.

But despite that I got what I wanted, I have to agree that the rollout of the Dynamic Dining reservations system has not been Royal Caribbean's finest hour. There are scores of angry people, like beachbum13, who are currently facing dinner times that would only appeal to people from Spain. I've read posts on Facebook of people who have canceled their Quantum cruises purely out of frustration over Dynamic Dining, and that is not good publicity for the cruise line. I've also read that they aren't holding back a lot of space for onboard bookings. Well, we'll see how it goes and I am really anxious to hear the first reports when the ship enters revenue service.

If you are trying for Anthem of the Seas, and are from the UK, then you are out of luck as the cruise planner hasn't got the entertainment or dining options available yet. Only shore excursions or drinks packages are on there. But more is being added weekly so hopefully I can give my honest opinion when I get to book and reserve.

I hope that there will be room for some walkups or this is a total cluster F$%#@!!! We are doing two specialty dinings just because we want to be sure to get to our entertainment. I'm willing to do this because it's a new ship and all. But I'm not a fan of "having" to pay for diner. We only do specialty as a treat. If they don't iron out these problems I will not be taking any more RCL cruises with dynamic dining. I think that later today I will write or call and see what they have to say.

I find it difficult to book dinner reso's so far in advance. The think I love about cruising is being able to do what you want, when you want, and not have to plan things out....guess it is the different times?? If you don't pre-book, you could be out of luck totally...

I was able to get all of my dining times and my show times too. I prebooked my dining early and my shows after that. I was able to get all the early dining times 5:30 or 6:15. There is 2 hrs. allowed to have dinner so this gives us plenty of time to enjoy the shows. Beachbum13, I hope that RCI made concessions for those who were not able to get their dining or entertainment times.

I'm also booked on the Dec. 1st sailing and I have not given much thought to dining until now. I went into my booking and see that there is not much left. Alot of 9pm/9:30pm left. The free of charge dining is very slim pickings.

9pm dinner is way too late.

Default Conflicts

Had the same problem on recent Allure sailing. Trying to schedule dining and entertainment was a job in itself. More show times were needed. Reminded me of when I had to schedule 1200 middle school students for thier classes. Conflicts galore!!!!!

Have found that I can not do Anthem Dining until 8 months before travel, So I have to wait for November before I can book anything. Al least by that point all the Venues and entertainment will be announced.
I quite like all the pre-booking planning as it gets me excited about my cruise and makes my time on board alot easier as I know what I am doing and when and don't miss anything.

An interesting question came up this morning on a FB page about Dynamic Dining....how busy do you think the formal restaurant 'The Grande' is going to be on the first and last nights of a cruise?

The first night it is reasonable to assume a lot of people will either not have completed unpacking, or even if they have they are not prepared or in the mood to put on suits, tuxes, gowns, etc.

The last night of the cruise, most people will have packed up and similarly not be in the formal dress frame of mind.

So, are they going to be strict about the dress code on those nights, or is this going to be a fairly empty dining room while people crowd into the other places or the Windjammer?

I'm always prepared and in the mood for Formal wear....So I would do the Grande Restaurant 1st day and last of the cruise. In fact I may book the Grande Restaurant every night for the whole duration of the cruise.
Formal wear every night...Yay!!

The only issue I have with "formal" evening is the packing problem, takes up a lot of luggage space and also adds to the weight...Lately we just forget formal night and do something alternative, works for us.

I travel solo and tried to make a reservation on the Quantum and got a message the reservation could not be made in that configuration. Do they accept reservations for one at two person tables?

Well isn't that lovely? Yeah, all you solo cruisers - the ones we even put solo cabins on the ship for - you all just eat in the Windjammer. Seriously, I don't know the answer to your question. I do know that a lot of people have resorted to calling RCI directly to make reservations because of frustration with the online reservation system.

Is it too soon to mention that RCI is now dropping hints about having some 'upcharged' entertainment? I guess we'll learn more next Wednesday at the entertainment 'reveal'.

Should be interesting to see exactly what entertainment will come with a fee?? Which show(s) does NCL charge for and how much is the charge?

NCL has Cirque Dreams and Dinner on the Epic and I think the Breakaway, and on the Getaway they have The Illusionarium. These are dinner theater with a fixed menu (surf and turf....sort of) and the price is $30 ($25 for the cheap seats in the back).

So NCL does a dinner show for around $30. I guess it would have to depend on what type of show it is and If I would be willing to pay the fee to see that show.

We'll know more tomorrow afternoon around this time. RCI is having the 'reveal' for Quantum entertainment live from Las Vegas (and obviously doing it from Vegas has some purpose).

One of the things we learned, booking slots for dinner or shore excursions, you need to do it in advance or you are left with the left-over....good luck anyways!

We booked the Grande the first and last night because we could pick the times WE wanted to eat. I could care less about getting dressed up. I enjoy it. I will miss formal night when everybody gets dressed up. FOR ME it makes it special.

Wow! I was trying to book dining the same sailing and all I came up with is 9:30pm including day 1 and last day. My cabin I gave up is still available maybe I'll rebook it.

I wish Royal can tell you what dinner time options are available before one actually books. It stinks to have to book a cruise just to find out you can't have dinner before 9:30pm and then cancel the cruise.

We are booked on Anthem of the Seas for next year and I have been able to book my dining times. Unfortunately, entertainment isn't available yet so I have no idea whether the dining times that I have booked are going to work along side the show times.
Can any of you that are booked on Quantum give me some idea of your show times eg Sonic Odyssey, Starwater, Wink, Mamma Mia and also how long the shows last.
At least then I might be able to work out if any of my dining times are going to clash. Any help would be very gratefully received! Many thanks
