Default Change in Royal intineraries

Does anyone know how Royal is going to re-schedule their Caribbean cruise destinations in the near future? The hurricanes have closed several ports, at least temporally.

We've gotten a few notifications for itineraries between now and the end of October, mostly moving from E. Carib to W. Carib or changing/bypassing certain ports in the E. Carib.

They're not making 'blanket' changes, yet, because as you can imagine, there are alot of logistics to work out, especially given the enormity of the situation and the number of ports affected.

St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Key West, and San Juan are some that got severely damaged.

Luckily for RCCL, Labadee was spared major damage, so they're using that port as best they can.

Can't imagine the logistical nightmare all this is causing. Plus, the cruise lines have been transporting alot of supplies to affected areas, while helping to evacuate alot of people.

Of course, then you have all the passengers that had cruises extended or cut short, plus those that were cancelled and they have to deal with all those problems. Keep in mind that some passengers can be alot more understanding than others, while some can be downright irritating and demanding.

But I know from past experiences that the ports will work very hard to get everything back up and running as soon as possible, as the cruises bring in a huge amount of money. And right now, they need all the money they can get.

For those that are physically able, it would be a great time to sign up for a humanitarian cruise and instead of spending the time and money 'sightseeing', spend the time and effort during port calls to help those in need who lost everything during these major storms.

From RCI's home page there is a link to the current changes. Labadee, St. Croix, St. Kitts are just some of the alternate destinations. There are others.

I have heard Bonaire as a possible substitute.

Things will return to normal, before too long, as far as the ports go. Royal is again sailing out of San Juan.

I am supposed to be on a RCI cruise in December to the Caribbean.I got an e-mail today from RCI stating that expectations are that St.Marten and St.Thomas are still on the schedule.

As Manny said, find yourself an agent, preferably a Cruise Specialist and let them do all the work for you. They don't charge anything for their services and might be able to find you a better deal.

But keep in mind that everyone is required to advertise the same cruise for the same price, so you're not going to find any 'cheaper' cruises. If you want cheap, then look at Carnival and NCL - they have the cheapest prices.
