Talking Never thought this would happen - OASIS upcoming!!!

Back after a long hiatus. Check my sig. Only budget cruises. Well this summer we are going OASIS! I never thought it would be possible. It's going to be a blast. That ship is amazing! Although I will never lose my love for Enchantment and will go on that one again. My son is now 13 and will roam the ship and enjoy the teen amenities and my girl will be 8 so she will enjoy Adventure Ocean even more. It's such a huge ship. Of course inside cabin but I spent a few bucks extra to get a room in the middle since the ship is so huge. This is one of my concerns. It's TOO big! Walking from one area to another is an undertaking. I'm concerned about crowds. My last 3 on Enchantment were great. Made friends with passengers and staff. They knew me and my family. I never wait at the pool bar. Walk up and they reach over the crowd and hand me my drink (extra tips). But I really hung out with the casino bartenders late evenings and met the same other dads out on the smoking deck every night. This ship is too big. This element is going to be gone, I'm afraid. Leaving from Canaveral to NAssau (done that way too many times) and then to St Maarten and St. Thomas. Which location do you recommend for a convenient and beautiful family beach day, since there is not CoCo Cay on this cruise. Really bummed about that. I loved my cheap 3 and 4 night cruises. The cost of this cruise really is an order of magnitude over what I am used to, but I am told I got a good deal. About $4500 for the 7 night including all fees and prepaid gratuities and $100 shipboard credit. I'm also interested in comments from other cruisers about traveling with teens cause this is new for us.

The Oasis is a great ship, and I never really felt like I was on this ship with 6500 other cruisers. You will enjoy this monster of a ship.

There is always 101 activities going on, that keeps the crowds somewhat at bay. The shows are at times a bit crowded (going in and out) but that is just a small portion of your day.

I loved trying to find all of the small wonders (there are 42 of them around the ship). I think we found 30 of them in the 2 weeks we were on-board.

Remember to book you shows ~90 days before departure as they tend to book up before sailing. While you can still get in, stand-by, booking beats standing in line for 45 minutes.

Have not sailed with kids, but have seen loads of happy kids in the various areas.

I have sailed twice on the Oasis and I loved both of those cruises.

Go to Coki beach in St. Thomas, bus ride is under 9 bucks a person and then maybe 5 or 10 for chair and umbrella(extra). Swimming there is great with coral reef right there. You can rent snorkel gear if need be. Bathrooms and showers there too. They sell food and bing it to you. Staff very friendly and will help make sure you leave in time to catch boat. It’s between half hour and 45 minutes ride, so give yourself plenty of time in case of traffic slowing you down for time.

Have been on the Oasis Class Ships, yes they are very large and impressive. Royal has done a good job trying to get the feel of less people on the ships. But for me the ships are just to large.

I do not want to be on a ship with 6000 plus guests. It still is a single captain and Hotel Director, no more upper level staff than on smaller ships. I like the interactions between the Officers and guests on smaller ships.

Not to be negative here but from a safety point of view I do not want to be on a 6000 passenger ship in a real emergency. Also I do not believe the quality of the cruise is on a mega ship. And many ports just cannot handle these ships, and the ports that can still have problems on shore, transportation, shopping, tours, etc. With many ports having limited staff getting on and off mega ships can also be a issue.

While these ships may work for big Caribbean Islands and the cruise companies private islands, just not really the best choice in other areas. Some people love mega ships, other love Seabourn Cruises with smaller personal ships.

Have been on both and I believe somewhere in the middle is my best fit.

Thanks for all the replies. I am 8 days out now and have all my shows and excursions booked. Doing the basic Atlantis tour on Nassau Day, Sapphire beach on St. Thomas day and the Jeep tour on the St. Maarten stop. I'm gonna gain 10 pounds!
