Is It The End For "The Yachts of Seabourn"?
 

It was prematurely announced today that Seabourn may be eliminating "The Yachts of Seabourn" and, again, refer to itself as "Seabourn Cruise Line".

I have written my thoughts on the subject on my blog, This Is My Yacht, which I invite you to read rather than repeating it here.

What do you think? Does it matter?

The only thing shocking is that a company wants to be more accurate in its marketing.
Next thing you know, Regent will call itself a 3 star cruise line.

Anyway - I think this would be a very good move for Seabourn. The term "Yacht Club" is deceiving in that it sounds like something you need to join in order to get involved.

I can just see people saying "I don't want to join a club, I just want to take a cruise."

But by the same token, I know Larry Pimentel purposely changed the title of Azamara to Azamara CLUB Cruises because he found that most of the people on such ships were joiners, and that many of them belonged to various clubs and organization. He felt it was important to imbue a sense of "belonging" when you take a certain cruise line.

However - I agree that accuracy is a good thing, Seabourn will soon have 1350 staterooms on bigger vessels and only 600 on the smaller ones. They are no longer a "Yacht" cruise line, they are a standard small luxury line (categorically speaking).

I think many cruise lines miss the boat when it comes to names - of lines and ships.

I dislike "Azamara" as a name. I htink Seabourn should have been "Seaborne" as it looks classier and say "of the sea" while the word "Seabourn" is actually meaningless in derivation.

I can't stand Royal Caribbean's ____ of the Seas naming convention. And I don't like names "Oasis of the Seas" or "Allure of the Seas." Never give a ship a terrestrial sounding name - "Celebrity Summit" is a bad name, as is "Oasis" of the seas.

Anyway - it is too easy for people to pick on Seabourn for calling it s "Yacht Club" - Seabourn Cruises is the perfect, more memorable name.

Speaking of names, I predict no prizes will be awarded to whomever came up with "Junior Member" & "Beginner" as names for people who join this forum.

Diebroke - if you have better suggestions I will change them. I originally had something else but I was over-ruled.

BY the way - I will be going on Azamara Club Cruises this coming January.

How about "Person"? (That will distinguish us from our pets who may choose to post.)
The good news is that now that I have successfully achieved the giant leap from Beginner to Passenger, my posts will no doubt be more enlightened & insightful and will be read with more interest.
Seriously, I don't understand what you are trying to accomplish by giving us labels. If it is to guide the reader in establishing the credibility of the poster, maybe it would be useful to require us to post the number of (luxury) cruises we’ve been on, the number of countries we’ve visited, the number of Michelin starred restaurants we’ve eaten in, the number of frequent flyer miles we have, our status in various hotel frequent stayer programs, our college degrees, our net worth, and our IQ. At least on the CC boards, and in particular the Regent CC boards, I have not found a correlation between the number of posts someone has made and the wisdom of their posts (as judged by me.)
Another option would be to just let the reader judge the usefulness of the information & its credibility based on the content of the post itself and the history of that person’s posts. Over time, we all develop a web personality that is unique and people learn whose advice to pay attention to & whose to ignore.

In the meantime, you are welcome to give me any label you like. I am sure it will be far better than some of the labels others have attached to me.

See? Not as easy to come up with those labels as you probably thought!

I will tell you something funny about these message boards... they are vBulletin boards, which are the same as Cruise Critic uses.

However (odd coincidence) our parent company (Internet Brands) which acquired us in 2006 owns the intellectual property rights to vBulletin message boards.

That doesn't mean much, except that they own the design so other sites (like CC) that use them pay a license fee to "us",

Now the funny part...

These boards come with a feature we have disabled (and so has Cruise Critic) where every USER like you, Granny or me, can vote on other users reputation. It is called the "reputation manager" where you give each post "points"

I see that we have now been labeled as Familiar Faces. Still trying to decide if that's a good thing. The only place where I am known by that label is our local pub.

How am I a "Familiar Face" when nobody knows what I look like?:confused:
