Re: family of 5

We went on Vision to Mexico in December, and booked a balcony cabin and an across-the-hall interior cabin for the kids. For booking purposes, there was one adult in each room, but in reality the kids...

Re: Stone Beach Island/El Cid

I've been to El Cid, and didn't really think the beach was too special. Lots of vendors. However, the pool area is nice if you like pools. We were able to parasail and horseback ride from this beach,...

Re: shampoo, soap

On the Vision, we had large containers of all of the above.

Re: Family on different flights!

We just sailed on Vision, and had a similar reservation configuration with my husband in one room with two kids, and me in the other with one child. We drove to the ship, so didn't have your air...

Re: 1st cruise, going with Royal, advice, comments?

A small piece of advice is to bring a travel clock. There are usually no clocks in the rooms, and it's nice to be able to see the time in the middle of the night, without groping around for a light...

Re: Excursions in Mexico - should we?

Sounds fun, but I don't know about surfing. My kids did some pretty tame boogie boarding in Cabo -- once the waves came up after noon.

Re: Brilliance, thought we would die

I'm curious about how RCCL dealt with it? Did they make a reassuring announcement when it was happening? DId the ship have to make an unscheduled port stop?

Re: rccl vision or carnival pride with 2 teens?

I was just on Vision in December and there IS a rock climbing wall. They've installed it in the stern on the upper deck.

Re: rc vs. Princess

I've been on one Princess cruie and one RCCL. I had a wonderful time on both. Hard to compare because the Princess Star is a newer ship than Vision. But, if we're making broad generalizations, I...

Re: fountain drinks new policy

This seems like a price increase to me. The soda package we were offered last month was $33 for the 7 day cruise, so $42 would be more for the same thing. And, the soda package did not include...

Re: room service

If you want something from Room Service that's not on the menu, they will usually bring it. We often wrote our request on our breakfast menu, or just called the room service staff to ask. Always...

Re: Excursions in Mexico - should we?

Linda,

You don't need to do shore excursions to lounge on the beach, but in some cases you may need to take a taxi or water shuttle.

In Cabo, the beach right next to the cruise pier...

Re: How mucbh freedom do you give your kids ?

I agree with Dorothy's comment about kids behaving differently when they're not with you. I posted on the "roaming the ship" thread that we tried an experiment of letting our 11 (almost 12) year old...

Re: Vision to Mexican Riviera?

Francine, I just submitted a review of the Vision, comparing it to the Star Princess. Should be posted soon. Overall, I might say that I preferred Princess because I liked the ship better, but we had...

Re: Mexican Riviera for Kids?

Francine, Having cruised on Star Princess last year, and Vision over New Year's, I agree with Chuck that the Princess Diamond would be overall nicer, but we really enjoyed Vision too. In fact, the...

We were on the same cruise! I thought they did a nice job with New Year's celebration. Thanks for posting your pics.

Re: roaming the ship??

I should clarify that yes, the 8 and 9 year olds were supposed to stay with the 11 year old at all times. If the 11 year old was off on his own, then the younger ones had much less freedom. (to the...

Beatlemania on Vision

Just got back from cruising Mexican Riviera on Vision and the Beatlemania show was fabulous. People dancing in the aisles and talking about it all week. No other show or act could measure up. ...

Re: Mexican Rivera

In Puerto Vallarta, the Malecon is a beach promenade right in the downtown. It's not the best beach for snorkeling or swimming, but they have parasailing and jet skiing from this beach, and lots of...

Re: Mexican Riviera for Kids?

We just got back from cruising the Mexican Riviera on the Vision with our kids aged 6, 9 and 11, but last year we went on Star Princess with no kids. I'm not sure about the Diamond, but on the Star,...

Re: maz, cabo, and pv day trips

We just sailed on the Vision to Cabo and had excellent snorkeling at Chileno Bay. It's about a 15 minute cab ride from the cruise pier along the road to San Jose. Snorkels are available for rent on...

Re: Mazatlan On your Own

We spent the day at El Cid when we cruised on Star Princess last year. We got our passes when we stepped off the ship, but we didn't have to hear the timeshare presentation. I was not impressed with...

Re: Mega-liner Best food?

I've been on RCI's Vision of the Seas and the Star Princess. The food in the dining room was much better on the Vision, which surprised me.
