Re: You people are depressing me!

Is it just the Dream? Or just European cruises? The Sky was a beutiful ship when we sailed her in Alaska. Clean and efficient. And we were next to the Wind in port and at least on the outside...

You fly into Anchoridge and take a bus or train to Seward I believe.

Re: Review of ms Zuiderdam--Western Caribbean Aug 23-29

Hey Gary,

Thanks for your review. We just returned from the Zuiderdam (Sept. 20th) - and had an absolutely fantastic time. No compliants here! The service of both the housekeeping and dining staff...

Re: You people are depressing me!

We sailed the Sky to Alaska a couple of years ago and loved it. The only negative is the cabin storage is very poor.

We love Freestyle dining. Had no problems with the service at all. It was...

Re: Advise for new cruisers concerning luggage

We put big X's with orange or green day-glo tape on our bags. Looks a bit silly however easy to locate.

Re: Decisions...decisions...Seattle or Vancouver?

I would suggest that Glacier bay is a must for your first Alaskan trip IMHO. Awsome!
And as Karen16 mentions above, not every ship of the lines visits Glacier bay so this will limit your choices...

Re: Decisions...decisions...Seattle or Vancouver?

One big advantage I found going Seattle instead of Vancouver is when the cruise ends. Seattle airport was very easy to leave from where as Vancouver on both our trips was a crowded nightmare.

The...

Re: Sea Sickness

No mention of "smooth as glass" that I can find. Of course there is always the chance of rough seas on a ship. But logic tells us that if you're in between the islands and the mainland there it...

Re: THe sky

I agree that 4 would be pretty crowded. Unless you all stood up and leaned on the railing. Certainly not enough room for 4 to sit.

Re: Alaska wildlife

I don't know what the best time is however we've gone in August and have seen Humpback whales, Orca, dolphin, seals, Bald Eagles, and spawning salmon. I felt August was a good choice for us.

Re: Re: Past Guests

Jeanne: Many thanks for the information. To be truthful, I don't wish to sound like one of those freebee hunters and perhaps be responsible for Oceania to end up like Renaissance. I hope they make...

Re: Re: Past Guests

Peter (Levine): Many thanks for your message. Sorry you missed Tahit: it was our last R-Cruise two years ago and I truly recommend it if Oceania include it. However, I am getting to an age when I no...

Zuiderdam & hurricane

Hey Everyone,

This is our first cruise and I'm not familiar with the protocol regarding inclement weather and sailing. My TA tells me that the ship will sail "no matter what." Is this true - or...

Re: zaandam

Don't worry about your son having a good time. The kids program on the Zaandam was great and my son (9) loved it. They are broken into age groups too so your 11 yr old won't be socializing with the...

Re: Binoculars

Remember that not only the image you're looking at is magnified but any shake or movement is also magnified the same. I would say that 8-10 power is the max before needing a mount or tri-pod.

Many Thanks: We were loyal to Ren until it's demise, when we temporarily switched to Holland America for their Antarctic cruise last year and now hope to re-join those ships with which we had become...

Re: zaandam

We found the the Zaandam to be no "stuffier" than any other ship we've been on. Avg age a bit higher maybe. You'll have a great time and shouldn't feel the need to hold back enjoying...

Re: shore excursions - please help!

I just wondered if they did tourist gold panning trips on the American river as they do in Alaska. You know the type, pay 40 bucks and a bunch of people are handed a pan and you're "guarenteed" to...

Re: Sea Sickness

We had the same rough seas between Hubbard and Sitka. Not a surprise I suppose since it's not in the passage anymore. I would think that the best chance to get calm waters all the way would be to...

Do they have gold panning tours of the American river? I didn't think so. I've done the whitewater rafting there a couple of times and saw "real" gold panners but no tour groups. ...

Re: Cruising for Dummies

I'd bet every cruiser, no matter how many cruises taken, get off the elevator on the wrong floor more than once during a cruise. It's got nothing to do with age.

I still get twisted around the...

Re: Best Scenery Viewing on Mercury

I'm not 100% sure because we didn't sit on the Promenade deck. We walked it and played shuffleboard but didn't sit.

I do remember that they were lounge chairs and not the plastic strap kind. I...
